Work experience
December 2007- to date:
Operations engineer in West Harbor gas processing plant located at coast of Mediterranean sea in north of Egypt
, which was owned by Gulf of Suez Petroleum Company ( GUPCO) till 2009 , then new established company
Paharonic Petroleum Company ( PhPC) replaced GUPCO.
PhPC is joint venture operating company EGAS, BP, and ENI are our shareholders, it is considered the third
natural gas producer in Egypt.
Sweet natural gas production from offshore platforms and subsea wells, and conditioning through onshore
processing facilities is framework of my current employment.
My experience and work responsibilities over this period can be categorized as following:
HSE
- Responsible for carrying out all operations in environmentally sound and safe manner.
- Understand HSE policy and my role as a senior shift engineer in its implementation.
- Inspire my work team and subordinates to keep following HSE requirements all time.
- Be aware of annual HSE objectives and targets, and work to achieve these targets.
- Be aware of hazardous and aspects related to job activities, and try to reduce its risk and impact.
- Be aware of preparedness and response procedure for different emergency cases.
Onshore processing
- Responsible for management of process plant (JT gas plant).
- Responsible for planning all activities inside onshore plant
- Responsible for preparing yearly operations budget.
- Responsible for cost management, production optimisation.
- Responsible for process monitoring, maintenance preparations, communication, and work planning.
- Responsible for training and development for my subordinates from awareness level up to mastery

Subsea operations
- Member of commissioning and start up team of first subsea project in my company.
- Responsible for monitoring parameters subsea facilities which contains unique features in Egypt
(Longest umbilical, Usage of HIPPS, and Usage of hydraulic LP/HP intensifier).
- Responsible for keeping subsea wells producing without unplanned shutdown, especially during
malfunction of critical parts in wells, and/or loss of communications with those wells.
- Responsible for applying topside activities related to subsea facilities.
- Participated in factory acceptance test ( FAT) for subsea control system at CAMERON ,GERMANY ,CELLE
New projects and turnarounds (Commissioning and start up)
3. - During my working period I participate in different phases of many new projects (subsea new phases,
onshore facilities).
- Participate in document review during engineering phase and attend HAZOP, HAZID, and LOPA.
- Participate in preparation and execution of planned shutdowns related to projects and maintenance
activities.
- Review and update cause and effect matrix, P&ID and operating manuals.
- Review projects design from operations/Process point of view
- Responsible for knowledge transfer about new facilities to operations team, by conducting training
sessions and doing site visits and familiarization for my work team and site management.
- Participated in commissioning and start up activities as operations/ process engineer for hereunder
mentioned projects:
1- Taurt phase one project – 2008- its scope include three subsea production wells and their
associated topside facilities, onshore receiving facilities i.e. Slug Catcher, liquid production
separator, chemical injection skids, and water treatment & disposal systems.
2- 3rd
LTS processing train project -2008- its scope include low temperature separator processing
train, Mono Ethylene Glycol regeneration unit, and glycol injection pumps.
3- Taurt to compression crossover- 2010- Its scope include mechanical connection of a new
suction and discharge for existing gas compressors, in addition to upgrading DCS control
system.
4- Taurt Phase two and Ha’py field extension -2011- its scope is to enlarge subsea facilities to be
seven wells instead of three in addition to introducing subsea HIPPS for the first time in Egypt.
5- West Harbour Expansion WHX -2011: 2016 – its scope include gas compressor driven by
SOLAR gas turbine, blow down system flare& header, glycol regeneration unit, medium voltage
electrical power, and upgrade for all infrastructure of WH plant including open/closed drain
system, Firefighting, Fire& gas, and DCS& Safeguard system.
Area Authority
- As an area authority AA, I’ve been delegated by fields’ managers to take full authority and
responsibility of process area regarding all onsite activities.
- Responsible for provide good planning for any job prior to start it
- Responsible for issuing required permit to work for any permitted task.
- Responsible for monitoring and managing all planned/unplanned activities.
- Responsible for applying emergency response procedure in any emergency case.
Site operations improvement
- Provide technical training for site operations team.
- Translate operating procedures from English into Arabic to be understandable for operations team.
- Prepare shut downs and start up procedures, in addition to pre-start- up checklists
- Provide continues coaching and assessment for operations team.
