The document describes the final version of an atlas created as part of Action 1 of the Weastflows Partnership Event. It includes contextual maps, infrastructure maps, and maps of network and intermodal platform projects. The atlas underwent several updates based on partner feedback, including updating labels, ports and airport traffic data, channel depths, and TEN-T data. It is one of five deliverables from Action 1, along with a data catalog, two previous atlas versions, and a TEN-T data report. The atlas and associated geographic information system data will inform further analyses and prospective reports within the partnership.

Editor's Notes
Presentation of the AURH team:
JD (project manager)
Mathilde (mapping coordinator) - Mathilde (announced)
JF (GIS manager)
Let us remember that action 1 is one of the first actions to be started in the Weastflows project
First, as a reminder the aim of action 1 is to :
Assess the freight multimodal transport infrastructures in NWE (North West Europe), including mapping, analysis of the network (underused infrastructure, bottlenecks etc.) and analyse of interconnections with other EU (European union) freight axis (existed and planned)
The other aim is to carry out a prospective analysis to show how the freight connections in a West-East Axis could be improved, by giving global trends. It will be based on the existing relationships between Weastflows regions and the potential synergies to be developed. This part is link to the simulation part of Action 2.
Our study will be based on a geographic approach which includes two levels of analysis : a global one (North West Europe) and a regional scale based on Weastflows partners areas; This regional scale is what we call the area of interest.

Le travail accompli
Meeting de Liverpool nous a beaucoup aidé
GIS and Atlas are interdependent: the data was updated before to be displayed and checked by the Atlas
A new GIS Data Dictionary (v.3.1) has been produced (on going) to recapthe layers, the attributes, the code-list values used
OSM datasets (8 countries) released from the 15th may, were loaded during June and July. It provides the basic and open GIS data.
The TEN-T data provided on the 14th September (after a long process of gathering), and then they were examined.
The report was produced in November.
The first draft of the Atlas of the NWE infrastructure was presented in the meeting of Le Havre
The second version (consolidated, with new maps and methodological approach) was presented during the Duisburg meeting
Between each version, the partners were invited to give their feedback.
This is the final version. But the data are on going updated.
Sources management and tracking (proove of concept with « hstore field »)
Expliquer que c’est une phase de stabilité et de consolidation ; que le gros a été apporté entre septembre et décembre et qu’après ces données ont été consolidées d’un point de vue plus qualitatif (slide suivante)
6192 cities (ne pas mentionner car base map)
Concerning the layers
Remasterization of the citiesCities with urban population provided by different sources
Objects adding for the Roadlink (South of England, UK, North of France), Ferry
Inland waterways sections built
Sets : Inlandwaterways (67), Railways (591), Roads (287)
New projects added
Regarding the Attributes
« Classification » reviewed« TENT classification »
CORE, comprehensive (network or nodes), out of TEN-T scope
TENTCORE (ROS, RAS, AER, PON) – not for the inlandwaterway and for the railways terminals (at this time)
Portnode: « Channel depth » and « traffic » (per good types)
Airports - Eurostat « avia_gooa »). Freight traffic 2011 updated
Road « Form of way » reviewed.
Railway’s Electrification reviewed
Railway Electrification reviewed
Population for the cities (with several sources)
Useful filters
NWE : to display or select easily infrastructure belonging to NWE
ATLAS : to be easily displayed
Area of interest : to be selected for partner’s region

Four (4) extractions (PortNode, AerodromeNode, RailwayStation, Inlandwaterways)
Two (2) extractions to be done (Railways and Roads) after the sections are built.
GIS Webmapping Platform
See TUDOR presentation
All these data are soon available on the GIS WMP
Atlas v1 - provided at the begin of October
Atlas v3 - provided on the 01.03 (beta) and consolidated on the 14.03 (AURH and TUDOR are linked)
Routing
To correct and complete the topology of the network to be used for the routing system developed by TUDOR (Action 5)
The Four deliverables are based on a GIS – Geographic Information System:it takes a longer time as a simple drawing map (data management)but it is sustainable and reusable by other partners.
This proposition of atlas GIS mapping will be discussed during this meetingand will go on during September (Weastflows extranet website or by exchanges).
On the fourteenth September (09-14-12), after eight months of exchanges,we were successful in obtaining a usable TEN-T GIS dataset.
Next weeks: completion of the atlas for a deliverable in the beginning of November.
Three kinds of deliverable are possible:
Static maps (PDF and PNG formats, from the extranet)
Online maps (with ArcGIS online)
GIS dataset (Geodatabase format, shapefile format)
It is time for corrections and complement of the information until end of October.
The Atlas is dynamic and evolutionary during the project.
The AURH team keeps mobilized until the end of the Weastflows project.
