2. Abstract
i. In these projects the main concept is to cut the metal/plastic material.
So from this idea we are developed metal cutting hacksaw machine.
In this machine we used human power to develop the motion from
which the mechanism run.
ii. In this project we are using human efforts for cutting metal
material so we can save electricity .When pedal is operated because
of chain rotary motion is transmitted to linear motion of a hacksaw
frame & which is cut the material.
i. In this we are metal cutting hacksaw machine .Mechanism is
mounted with cycle frame with help of hacksaw blade we are cutting
material.
3. History
i. Ever since the arrival of fossil fuels and electricity, human powered tolls
and machines have been viewed as an obsolete technology. This makes it
easy to forget that there has been a great deal of progress in their design,
largely improving their productivity
ii. The most efficient mechanism to harvest human energy appeared in the late
19th century: pedaling. Stationary pedal powered machines went through a
boom at the turn of the 20th century, but the arrival of cheap electricity and
fossil fuels abruptly stopped all further development.
4. Introduction
i. The pedal powered hacksaw set up, has a simple mechanism operate with
chain and sprocket gear arrangement. As by pedaling the wheel rotary
motion is converted in to the to and fro motion of the cutting too (hacksaw).
ii. The size and shape of this setup is similar to cycle. It is like a cycle is added
with a bed for cutting a work piece. As it required very low pedaling power
it can be operated by very low power.
iii. Chain mechanism is used thus it transmit power without much of loss.
Lubrication of chain and crank arrangement is made by grease and oil.
Bearing is used for the smooth transmission of rotary motion in to the crank
arrangement.
5. Working Principle
i. The working medium adopted is Mechanical power.
ii. The machine work without the help of electricity.
iii. The Rotary motion of pedaling operation performed to our required on
cutting the job.
iv. The work piece is clamped on the work table using suitable clamping device
like vice.
6. Working
i. In this project we are using human efforts for metal cutting. So we can save
electricity when pedal is operated because of chain the rotary motion is
converted into To and Fro motion of the cutting tool (hacksaw).
ii. The rotary motion is converted into linear motion by creak & connecting rod
arrangement.
iii. In these project, we apply pedal power because of chain motion to
sprocket, and it cause to also start rotary motion of crank plate. On that
crank the connecting rod is mounted which is also connected to hacksaw
frame.
8. Advantages
i. No need of electricity.
ii. More efficient.
iii. Also it’s useful for keep better fitness for health.
iv. Power saving as it is manually operated
9. Application
i. In a furniture making industry at production department it is widely used.
ii. Cutting performs in all types of industries.
iii. This machine applied in carpentry shops and plumbing works.
iv. It is mostly useful in rural area, where electricity is not available
continuously.
10. Conclusion
i. Thus this project work might be useful in all industries. For practical
applications this is fabricated for light duty operation. Its height, weight and
other mechanical designs are may be not suitable for any other heavy
operation or work on hardened material.
ii. In conclusion remarks of our project work, let us add a few more lines our
impression on project work. Thus we have developed a “PEDAL
OPERATED HACKSAW” which helps to know how to achieve simple
cycling mechanism.
