INTRODUCTION
 There is currently no mechanical device that can execute several operations, which is why one
has been designed (i.e. drilling, sawing, punching & grinding) both at once.
 This machine is operated by AC motor and uses a scotch yoke mechanism and bevel gears.
 This particular model of the multi-operation mechanical device is suitable for residential use
as well as small-scale companies dealing with light materials like wood, cardboard, etc.
 Daily living frequently calls for activities like drilling, grinding, and cutting. Industries are
primarily designed for the low-cost production of valuable goods and services.
 This project involves creating a machine that can simultaneously perform the operations of
drilling, sawing, grinding, and punching at several work centers.

OBJECTIVE
 To design a multi purpose mechanical machine for increase the efficiency.
 To make a machine which can do a single operation as well as multiple operations at a time.
 The use of multipurpose machine reduces the time required to perform all these four
operations because all operations performed on a single unit of machine.

OPERATION TO BE PERFORMED
1.HACKSAW CUTTING OPERATION
 The hacksaw cutting operation is one of the four operation’s of multi-purpose machine .
 In this cutting operation the scotch yoke mechanism are used. It is power by electric motor
through bevel gear.
Scotch yoke mechanism
 The scotch yoke mechanism is convert rotational motion into oscillating motion or vise-versa.
 The sliding yoke is directly connected or fixed to the cutting frame .
 The shape of slider is pure sine wave over time given a constant rotational speed.

2. PUNCHING OPERATION
 A punch press machine is used in the deformation of metal by applying pressure to the die
attached to the work piece.
 The principle of punch press work is converting the circular motion into a straight-line
movement. And we are used to slider crank mechanisms.

Slider-crank mechanism
 A press operated with a slider-crank mechanism has a punch attached to the slider to be
used in punching holes on a sheet metal part.

3. DRILLING OPERATION.
 It is a process in which a drill bit is uses to cut a hole of a circular cross -section in a solid
material.
 Drill bit is a rotary cutting tool, a cylindrical bar with helical flutes and radial cutting edge in one
end.
 Drill are commonly used in metal working, construction fabrication work , wood work etc. high
speed steel drill are must commonly used in drill bit.

Mechanism
 In this operation we use rack and pinion gear mechanism to remove the metal to produces a
hole. Which is produces rotational motion to linear motion.

4. GRINDING OPERATION
 It is a process of metal cutting by using a rotating abrasive wheel from the surface of the work
piece.
 The wheel are generally made from a composite material consisting of coarse particle and
circular shape of grinding wheel arrangement.
 The common forms of rough grinding are snagging and off hand grinding where the work held
The precision grinding is concerned with producing good surface finish and high degree of
accuracy And power supply on the grinding wheel by motor through Bevel gear.

WORKING PRINCIPLE
 The arrangement has electrical motors, bevel gears, long shaft, scotch yoke mechanism,
drilling , Slider crank mechanism and grinding set up.
 The power is transmitted to the long shaft from the electrical motor which is driven by
electrical current.
 The grinding wheel is attached at the one end of the shaft. The scotch yoke mechanism is
placed at the other end for doing cutting action.
 For making drilling action, Belt and pulley arrangement at the shaft.
 All the operations are carried out by giving electrical current to the motor. It converts
electrical energy into mechanical energy.

Coupling is used for the engagement and disengagement purpose. We can perform any of the
three operations or all the three operations as per our requirement

APPLICATIONS
 This machine can be used in Steel industry.
 It can be used in workshop.
 It can be used for multiple operations in workshop.
 It can be used in welding shop.
 It can be used in part manufacturing work.

ADVANTAGES
 Multi operations are performed at one time.
 Our machine is used in return stroke mechanism also.
 All operations are performed in single motor.
 Size is compact therefore it requires less space.
 Time saving.
 Less man power is required.
 Low manufacturing and maintenance cost.

DISADVANTAGES
 Without human effort is not operated.
 Not fit for heavy production.
 Safety of operator is less.

FUTURE SCOPE
 Other operation can also be incorporated in to the machine.
 The machine can be made more portable.
 Cost can also be reduced to some extent by manufacturing it on a mass scale.
 Regulator can also be incorporated onto the AC motor to regulate the speed moving
motor(varying speed of motor).

CONCLUSION
 We can see that all the production based industries wanted low production cost and high
work rate which is possible through the utilization of multi-function operating machine which
will less power as well as less time, since this machine provides working at different centre it
really reduced the time consumption up to appreciable limit .
 In an industry a considerable portion of investment is being made for machinery installation.
 machine which can perform operations like drilling, sawing, grinding and punching at different
working centers simultaneously which implies that industrialist have not to pay for machine
performing above tasks individually for operating operation simultaneously.

INTRODUCTION  There is currently no mechanical device that can execute several operations, which is why one has been designed (i.e. drilling, sawing, punching & grinding) both at once.  This machine is operated by AC motor and uses a scotch yoke mechanism and bevel gears.  This particular model of the multi-operation mechanical device is suitable for residential use as well as small-scale companies dealing with light materials like wood, cardboard, etc.  Daily living frequently calls for activities like drilling, grinding, and cutting. Industries are primarily designed for the low-cost production of valuable goods and services.  This project involves creating a machine that can simultaneously perform the operations of drilling, sawing, grinding, and punching at several work centers. 3

OBJECTIVE  To design a multi purpose mechanical machine for increase the efficiency.  To make a machine which can do a single operation as well as multiple operations at a time.  The use of multipurpose machine reduces the time required to perform all these four operations because all operations performed on a single unit of machine. 6

OPERATION TO BE PERFORMED 1.HACKSAW CUTTING OPERATION  The hacksaw cutting operation is one of the four operation’s of multi-purpose machine .  In this cutting operation the scotch yoke mechanism are used. It is power by electric motor through bevel gear. Scotch yoke mechanism  The scotch yoke mechanism is convert rotational motion into oscillating motion or vise-versa.  The sliding yoke is directly connected or fixed to the cutting frame .  The shape of slider is pure sine wave over time given a constant rotational speed. 7 Sources (www. research gate.com)

PUNCHING OPERATION  A punch press machine is used in the deformation of metal by applying pressure to the die attached to the work piece.  The principle of punch press work is converting the circular motion into a straight-line movement. And we are used to slider crank mechanisms. DRILLING OPERATION.  It is a process in which a drill bit is uses to cut a hole of a circular cross -section in a solid material.  Drill bit is a rotary cutting tool, a cylindrical bar with helical flutes and radial cutting edge in one end.  Drill are commonly used in metal working, construction fabrication work , wood work etc. high speed steel drill are must commonly used in drill bit. Component  Drill bit  Spindle  Hand wheel  Rack and pinion  Spring collect Mechanism  In this operation we use rack and pinion gear mechanism to remove the metal to produces a hole. GRINDING OPERATION  It is a process of metal cutting by using a rotating abrasive wheel from the surface of the work piece.  The wheel are generally made from a composite material consisting of coarse particle and circular shape of grinding wheel arrangement.  The common forms of rough grinding are snagging and off hand grinding where the work held The precision grinding is concerned with producing good surface finish and high degree of accuracy And power supply on the grinding wheel by motor through Bevel gear. 10 Sources (www.allied-material.co.jp)

WORKING PRINCIPLE  The arrangement has electrical motors, bevel gears, long shaft, scotch yoke mechanism, drilling , Slider crank mechanism and grinding set up.  The power is transmitted to the long shaft from the electrical motor which is driven by electrical current.  The grinding wheel is attached at the one end of the shaft. The scotch yoke mechanism is placed at the other end for doing cutting action.  For making drilling action, Belt and pulley arrangement at the shaft.  All the operations are carried out by giving electrical current to the motor. It converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. 11
  • 12. Coupling is used for the engagement and disengagement purpose. We can perform any of the three operations or all the three operations as per our requirement 12 (Multi Purpose mechanical machine)
  • 13. APPLICATIONS  This machine can be used in Steel industry.  It can be used in workshop.  It can be used for multiple operations in workshop.  It can be used in welding shop.  It can be used in part manufacturing work. 13

ADVANTAGES  Multi operations are performed at one time.  Our machine is used in return stroke mechanism also.  All operations are performed in single motor.  Size is compact therefore it requires less space.  Time saving.  Less man power is required.  Low manufacturing and maintenance cost. 14
  • 15. DISADVANTAGES  Without human effort is not operated.  Not fit for heavy production.  Safety of operator is less. 15

FUTURE SCOPE  Other operation can also be incorporated in to the machine.  The machine can be made more portable.  Cost can also be reduced to some extent by manufacturing it on a mass scale.  Regulator can also be incorporated onto the AC motor to regulate the speed moving motor(varying speed of motor). 16

CONCLUSION  We can see that all the production based industries wanted low production cost and high work rate which is possible through the utilization of multi-function operating machine which will less power as well as less time, since this machine provides working at different centre it really reduced the time consumption up to appreciable limit .  In an industry a considerable portion of investment is being made for machinery installation.  machine which can perform operations like drilling, sawing, grinding and punching at different working centers simultaneously which implies that industrialist have not to pay for machine performing above tasks individually for operating operation simultaneously. 17
