The export of soybean meal and its other value added products during
February 2017 is pegged at 2,07,977 tonnes compared to 29,951 tonnes in
February 2016 showing an increase of 594.40 per cent over the same
period of last year, according to a release issued by Soybean Processors
Association of India (SOPA) on Monday. On a financial year basis, the
export during April’2016 to February’2017 is 8,09,271 tonnes as compared
to 3,60,652 tonnes in the same period of previous year showing an increase
of 124.39 per cent. During current oil year (October – September), total
exports during October 2016 to February 2017 is 7,33,539 tonnes as
against 1,59,124 tonnes last year, showing an increase of 360.98 per cent.
The data has been collected and compiled by SOPA based on the
information received from members, port Authorities and other agencies.
Withing a fortnight, India's sugar deficit increased to 18.54 % from
about 15% mid-February, said industry body Indian Sugar Mills
Association (IMSA) in a release. "During the current 2016-17 SS which
began on 1st October 2016 and till 28th February 2017, sugar mills have
produced 162.45 lac tons of sugar, as against 199.43 lac tons produced last
year in the corresponding period. As on 28th February 2017, 257 sugar
mills are continuing their crushing operations, whereas in 2015-16 SS, 390
mills were in operation on the same date," stated an ISMA release. In Uttar
Pradesh, 107 mills are still continuing their operations. As on 28th
February 2017, sugar mills have produced 62.46 lac tons of sugar, which is
17% higher as compared to last year’s sugar production of 53.51 lac tons
on the corresponding period. On 28th February 2016, 102 sugar mills were
in operation last year. The ISMA release stated: "Out of 153 sugar mills
which had started crushing this season in Maharashtra, 136 mills have
stopped crushing and 17 are still working. Till 28th February 2017, mills
have produced 41.15 lac tons of sugar, as compared to 70.58 lac tons
produced last year on the corresponding period, down by about 41%. In
2015-16 SS, 102 mills were in operation as on 28th February 2016.“
Soyabean futures traded marginally lower on NCDEX as ample
supplies in the global markets weighing on prices. Though, increase in
exports of soybean meal capped some losses. The Soybean Processors
Association of India has raised the estimate for soy meal exports in
2016-17 (October-September) to 1.8 mt from 1.0 mt projected earlier.
The contract for March delivery was trading at Rs 2889.00, down by
0.34% or Rs 10.00 from its previous closing of Rs 2899.00. The open
interest of the contract stood at 146780 lots.
Turmeric futures traded lower on NCDEX on heavy arrivals from
the producing regions. The turmeric arrivals in the country increase to
54,641 tons during February 27- March 4 compared to 28,454 tons
during previous week. Though, some losses were capped on rising
exports as well as domestic demand at the spot market. On the export
front, country exported about 82,115 tons during April-December
period, up by 28% compared to last year exports of 64,105 tons. The
contract for April delivery was trading at Rs 6726.00, down by 1.64%
or Rs 112.00 from its previous closing of Rs 6838.00. The open interest
of the contract stood at 14030 lots. The contract for May delivery was
trading at Rs 6750.00, down by 1.20% or Rs 82.00 from its previous
closing of Rs 6832.00.
Jeera futures traded lower on NCDEX on higher arrivals from the
producing regions. Reports showed that 9,901 tons of jeera arrived
during February 27-March 4 compared to 6,273 tons in the previous
week. Though, some losses were capped on expectation of good
domestic as well as exports demand at the spot market. The contract for
March delivery was trading at Rs 16670, down by 0.95% or Rs 160.00
from its previous closing of Rs 16830. The open interest of the contract
stood at 2841 lots. The contract for April delivery was trading at Rs
16550, down by 0.96% or Rs 160.00 from its previous closing of Rs
16710.
