Withing a fortnight, India's sugar deficit increased to 18.54 % from

The West Bengal government is introducing a single permit for
agricultural marketing, revamping a system that required wholesale buyers
to hold separate licences for each agricultural product. A senior official
said the single-window service will also ease farmers’ problems as they
will no longer have to go door-to-door to sell excess crop. To facilitate this
change, the state government will soon table the West Bengal Agricultural
Produce Marketing (Regulation) Bill with amendments in the state
Assembly, the official said, requesting anonymity. After the Bill is passed,
wholesale buyers, after paying a fixed fee, can buy whatever agricultural
products they wish to sell from all over the state. The amended law will
also be helpful for Bengal farmers who wish to export their products.
