2. Stencils.
Stencilling produces an image or pattern by
applying pigment to a surface over an intermediate
object with designed gaps in it which create the
pattern or image by only allowing the pigment to
reach some parts of the surface. The stencil is both
the resulting image or pattern and the intermediate
object; the context in which stencil is used makes
clear which meaning is intended. In practice, the
(object) stencil is usually a thin sheet of material,
such as paper, plastic, wood or metal, with letters or
a design cut from it, used to produce the letters or
design on an underlying surface by applying
pigment through the cut-out holes in the material.
3. Tiles.
Tile art is a small arrangement of tiles, or in some cases a single tile,
with a painted pattern or image on top. It is often used as an
umbrella term that includes other forms of tile-based art, such as
mosaics, micro mosaics, and, stained glass
Unlike mosaics, tile art can include larger pieces of tiles that are pre-
decorated. While mosaics use pieces of tesserae or another material
to construct a pattern from small components, other methods, such
as engraving, carving, and molding may be used in tile art. While
mosaics are considered a type of tile art, there are many other forms
that are also considered tile art.
4. Knitta graffiti.
Knitta Please, also known as simply Knitta, is the group of
artists who began the "knit graffiti" movement in Houston,
Texas in 2005. They are known for wrapping public
architecture—e.g. lamp posts, parking meters, telephone poles,
and signage—with knitted or crocheted material. It has been
called "knit graffiti", "yarn storming" and "yarnbombing". The
mission is to make street art "a little more warm and fuzzy."
Knitta grew to eleven members by the end of 2007, but
eventually dwindled down to its founder, who continues to
travel and knit graffiti. Internationally, as many as a dozen
groups have followed Knitta's lead. Sayeg and the group have
shown their art across the United States and around the world.
5. Spray paint.
Spray paint art is the application of spray paint a non-porous
material, such as wood, metal, glass, ceramic or plastic.
Spray paint art is a unique form of art that is generally performed
on the street in large cities. It sometimes features surreal
landscapes of planets, comets, pyramids, cities, and nature
scenes. The pieces can have a simple one-colored background or
a multi-colored backgrounds in which the paint swirls together or
fades from one color to the other through a series of differing
values of each color. It is said to have originated in Mexico City in
the early 1980s.
