10. SS. Annunziata (XIII century)
Founded in 1238 and rebuilt in various
periods, it has recently been brought back to
its original gothic style. To be seen are: the
portal (1564), frescos of the apse (XIV cent.).
the Last Judgement (XV cent.), the polyptich of
the Annunciation by A. Arcuccio (1483), the
Chapel of John Baptist Antonini (1719), the
stained glass windows by B. Cassinari (1976),
a beautiful wooden pulpit dated 1644 and
signed Jacopo Bonavita.
San Menna (XII century)
Built by the Count Roberto, it was
consacrated by pope Pasquale II in 1110. To
be seen are: the Romanesque portal, the
pillars and the capitals inside the church, the
floors, made by the Cosmati family (XII
century). The Cosmati floors is dated 1110,
stones and inscriptions are of the 12th
century.
The Castle (V century ?)
It was probably built by Goths in V century; then
Longobards built the cylindrical tower. Its plan is
rectangular and only two of four original towers are
still there. It is 26 metres high and some walls are 3
metres wide. To be seen are: the pointed archs in the
courtyard, and frescos painted by T. Giaquinto in 1710.
Villa Comunale
S. Angelo in Munculanis (XII century)
Recent discoveries have brought to light
romanesque structures and the Early
Middle Age capitals. This Church has just
been repaired. To be seen are: the portal
and the mullioned windows of the bell-
tower, pillars and capitals, frescos by A.
Mozzillio (1793), grypt with drain niches.
11. S. Maria di Costantinopoli (XVIII
century)
It’s a little Church with only a baroque
nave. Actually this Church is a nun
cloister.
S. Francesco (XVIII century)
Founded after the visit of Saint Francis
in this city, it was completely rebuilt
1700. To be seen: the sarcophagus of
Ludovico Artus, Count of Daint Agatha
(XIV cent.), the lacunar ceilings (XVIII
cent.), frescos by Giaquinto (1702),
majolica floors (XVIII cent.).
Bishop’s Palace and Alfonsian Rooms
(XV cent.)
Numerous works of St. Alfonso can be seen here:
the room where he slept during his regency as
Bishop, and numerous pieces of furniture of the
period. The grottoes and Saint Afonso’s
underground passageway, dated 16th century, are
also places of great mystical value where the saint
retreated to pray and do penance.
The Cathedral (XII cent.)
Built in XII century, it was later demolished and rebuilt in XVIII century. To be
seen are: the pronaos with pillars and capitals of the Late Empire, a Roman
epigraph of the year 42 B.C., a romanesque portal. Inside the Cathedral: high-
relief by John Baptist Antonini (XVIII cent.), remains of the Cosmati floor, the
wooden choir of 1600s, the Virgin Mary with the Infant (1400s), and
Romanesque crypt with frescos which belong to the year 1300.

19. Chiesa di San Menna (XII sec.)
Dedicata all’eremita del VI sec. vissuto sul
Taburno, la chiesa venne eretta per ordine del
conte Roberto e fu consacrata dal papa Pasquale II
nel 1110. Notevoli sono il portale in stile romanico,
le colonne e i capitelli all’interno della chiesa e il
pavimento a mosaico ad opera della famiglia
marmolara dei Cosmati. Il pavimento cosmatesco
risale al 1110, mentre le pietre e le iscrizioni sono
del XII sec.
Castello (V sec. ?)
Di forma rettangolare, delle quattro torri originarie
ne sono rimaste solo due, è alto 26 metri e lo
spessore delle mura esterne , nella parte più antica,
raggiunge i tre metri. Probabilmente la sua origine
risale al V sec. con l’occupazione dei Goti seguita da
quella dei Longobardi a cui si deve la torre
cilindrica. Pregevoli sono le arcate ogivali del
cortile, nonché un affresco con Diana e Atteone di T.
Giaquinto del 1710 che si trova al piano superiore.
Chiesa di S. Angelo in Munculanis (XII sec.)
Recenti scoperte hanno portato alla luce
strutture del periodo romanico e capitelli
risalenti al Medioevo. Di notevole interesse
sono il portale, le finestre a montante della
torre campanaria, i pilastri, i capitelli e gli
affreschi di A. Mozzillo del 1793, nonché la
cripta con le nicchie.
Villa Comunale
Chiesa dell’Annunziata (XIII sec.)
Fondata nel 1238 e rimaneggiata nei vari periodi
successivi, di recente è stata riportata all’originale
stile gotico. Di particolare interesse sono il portale
del 1564, gli affreschi dell’abside del XIV sec., Il
Giudizio Universale del XIV sec., il polittico
dell’Annunciazione di A. Arcuccio del 1483, il
pulpito in legno di Jacopo Bonavita del 1644, la
Cappella di Giovan Battista Antonini del 1719 e le
finestre decorate con vetri cattedrale di B. Cassinari
del 1976.
20. Chiesa di S. Maria di Costantinopoli
(XVIII sec.)
La chiesa, a navata unica ed in stile
barocco, oggi ospita le monache di
clausura redentoriste.
Chiesa di S. Francesco (XVIII sec.)
Fondata nel 1282 dopo la visita di S.
Francesco in città, fu ricostruita
completamente nel 1700. Da vedere il
sarcofago del conte di Sant’Agata Ludovico
Artus (XIV sec.), l’affresco della Madonna
del Latte (XV sec.), il soffitto a cassettoni
dorati (XVIII sec.), l’affresco di T. Giaquinto
del 1702, il pavimento maiolicato del ‘’700.
Palazzo Vescovile e Museo diocesano
(XV sec.)
Si possono ammirare qui numerosi oggetti di
S. Alfonso, come anche la stanza dove dormì
durante il suo vescovado. Si possono visitare
anche le grotte e il cunicolo do S. Alfonso,
luoghi di preghiera di grande interesse per la
presenza di affreschi del 1614.
Duomo (XII sec.)
Fondato nel XII secolo, è stato più tardi demolito e poi
ricostruito nel 1700. Da vedere il pronao con i pilastri del
tardo impero, un’epigrafe romana del 42a.C., il portale
romanico. All’interno da vedere l’altorilievo di Giovan Battista
Antonini del 1700, i resti del pavimento policromo, il coro
ligneo del 1600, la statua della Madonna col Bambino del
1400, la cripta romanica con affreschi che risalgono al 1300.
