Editor's Notes
Thank you for volunteering to assist with New Student Orientation. This PowerPoint will provide an overview of the Technology Is Your Friend session.
Welcome to the Technology Is Your Friend Session. Before we get started, everyone has a bag in front of them. The bag contains a student planner, a ring of resources which encompasses how to’s that you will refer to throughout the Orientation and your time at CTC. In addition, you have a give-a-way item to take with you.
During this session we will discuss the various technology you will need to be familiar with to be successful during your time at Chattahoochee. At this time, we will not be logging in, but you will have the opportunity to log in before the Orientation ends.
Chattahoochee recently moved to a single user name and password to access computers, student email, Blackboard learn, and Banner Web and Student Wi-Fi. For each, you may have to enter your full email address or just your user name. If you will pull out your ring of resources and flip to the card that has a blank for you to enter your student email address. This card will inform you which log in method you need for each application. We will provide your email address during the Advising session. So, don’t forget to pull back out this card and write down your email address.
As we stated, the card indicated if you would need to enter your full email address or just your username. Your username is the first part of your email address prior to the @ symbol. For your initial log-in, your password is uppercase CTC- followed by a dash followed by your 6 digit birth date. Please note its only month, date and the last two digits of your birth year
It is recommended that you change your password as soon as possible, and register to create your security options to assist with resetting your own password! You will have 3 options to choose from, (1) verify a personal cell phone number, (2) a personal email address and/or (3) three security questions. You have to do 2 of the 3. You will be prompted to complete this as soon as you access your email for the first time.
. (Presenter- please make sure to point out the example, and remind the student that it must be 6 digits. Also encourage them to write it on the back of their technology card in the ring of resources.
(The Presenter will click the student portal link below the image so show the students what it looks like.) When a student logs on to a campus computer the student portal will pop-up. This is the student hub to access various technology and resources for a student. There are few areas I would like to highlight starting with Blackboard Learn. Blackboard is an Internet-based application which allows instructors to put class materials on the Internet. It provides a variety of tools to facilitate teaching and learning.
Next, I would like to point out Banner Web (with email), through Banner Web you are able to register for classes, check your Financial Aid, View your Degreeworks. You will receive more information on these topics during later sessions.
Lastly, I would like to point out your CTC Student Email. Your student email is the official form of communication at CTC. We will not longer email your personal accounts now that you are a student. This is THE way to communicate with your faculty, departments at the college and to know what what's going on around campus. I cant not say this enough… you must check your student email!
Presenter- ask all students to pull out there cell phones.
CTC has a free App. This app will allow you to access Blackboard, your class schedule and more. Everything you need is at your finger tips in the convenience of an app! At this time, we are all going to download the CTC app! Go to your app store or google play and search for MyCTCMobile.
Presenter- click the link to show the students the website.
The website has most of the information you will need. me@CTC is a quick click guide to allow you to access the most frequently used technology such as blackboard and student email. We encourage to become familiar with the colleges website. In addition, the website will be updated in a timely manner to notify students, faculty and staff of any important information- emergency information, weather alerts and campus closings. We also have Eagle Alert. You are automatically registered for Eagle Alert, but you must log-in to select your preferences. You can access Eagle Alert via the website and then me@CTC.
Presenter- ask the students to take out their cell phones again!
To make sure you know what's going on around campus, be sure to follow us on all the socials.
For any student who has issues logging into Banner Web, Blackboard or email, they can contact the Student Help Desk. We recommend you go to the Student Help Desk website first to troubleshoot any issues. If you still are unable to login you can submit a Help Desk Request on the Helpdesk website and someone will get back to you.
Does anyone have any questions? We understand we gave you a lot of information at once so don’t forget to utilize your ring of resources as a quick reference. You will also be able to log into the various platforms in a later session.
