This presentation is a part of my academic study in which paper of American Literature I tried to connect The Scarlet Letter with Indian myth and Modern India in the issue of Adultery.

3. Hester is punished with public humiliation.
She stand strong during the 3 hours of her
sentence. Hester does not care what others think
of her and is not ashamed of her child. She takes
pride in her child.
“God give her to my keeping,” repeated Hester
Prynne, rising her voice almost to a shriek. I will
not give her up.”
4. The scarlet letter set
in Puritan town of

Letter is a symbol of
not only Hester’s sin,
but the society that
she lives in.

of crime and it was
not crime in our
Indian culture because
Indian Mythology have
many saucy tales
related to sexuality
especially in
Mahabharat.

12. To wind up, Through out the presentation, we
can say that Adultery is connected with Indian
Culture from Ancient India to Modern India.
So, why today’s society believe adultery as a
sin?
We can say that it is Patriarchal discourse
behind sin but Supreme court remove 497
and make free women because women have
right on their body and will not be property of
men. So, now women becoming Hester
Prynne in India.
