Will this course improve my career potential?
Yes. On completion of this course graduates will have a strong understanding of the tourism
industry. This allows graduates to seek employment in a large cross-section within tourism,
from general operations to more specific areas, e.g. tourism marketing. Tourism is seen
as a vital sector to many economies around the world. In Ireland, government policy has
demonstrated this through its reduced VAT rates for the tourism sector in an attempt to
boost economic activity. In the UK, similar measures were enacted to take advantage of
their hosting of the Olympic Games during the summer of 2012, which saw a huge influx
of people into London. Similarly in Brazil the tourism sector is expected to receive a massive
boost from their hosting of both the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016.
What kind of job can I get?
Graduates will be equipped with the necessary knowledge to operate competently in areas
such as tourism offices, transportation companies, travel agencies, tour operators and visitor
attractions.

“I decided that I needed to pursue an MBA in order to progress
my career in this challenging economic environment. I am in a
senior management role in a major FMCG company in Ireland and
want to enhance my skills and contribute knowledge, direction and
leadership to my organisation, all key skills enhanced as part of
an MBA qualification. Our organisation has recently undergone a
major restructure of which I was a part of. I worked as a member
of strategic cross functional teams which I enjoyed and wanted
to understand more about. The MBA programme at IBAT College
Dublin gave me the opportunity to understand how the different
functions operate and the skills I require to progress my career
within the organisation.”
Matt Tisdall, Sales Manager.
“I recently had the honour of winning Best Prepaid Marketing
Campaign at the European Prepaid Awards and I am fully aware
that this would not have been possible had I not participated in
the IBAT College MBA programme. The knowledge I acquired from
Rory Byrne’s and Peter Meehan’s classes in particular, provided
me with the confidence and skills to deliver an award winning
marketing entry. In previous years, I would never have thought
so strategically in my approach to award submissions. The IBAT
College Dublin MBA has reshaped my perspectives about business
and has ultimately given me the courage to build the career
I’ve always envisioned. I have no doubt that it was absolutely
instrumental in providing me with the knowledge foundation to
build an award winning marketing campaign. ”
Lynda McGovern, Marketing Manager, UK with One4all.

What is the course about?
The development of entrepreneurs can have a major impact on global economies. The MA in
Global Entrepreneurship has been specifically designed to assist the development of existing
or potential entrepreneurs. The aim of the MA in Global Entrepreneurship is to equip students
with the skills, knowledge and experience to start and maintain their own, unique and globally
competitive business and/or project and whilst doing that to obtain a Masters degree. Unlike
other entrepreneurship qualifications, the MA in Global Entrepreneurship goes beyond providing
training in business start-ups but also exposes students to the rigours of entrepreneurial
sustainability and provides graduates of this course with the necessary skillset to negate
the common pitfalls of entrepreneurial failure. Over the course of the programme, students
will engage in, and be expected to contribute to lively debate and discussion across a broad
spectrum of modules pertaining to their entrepreneurial development, culminating in a
capstone research dissertation on a specialist subject.
What will I learn?
During the first stage of study, students will discover ways to improve their own entrepreneurial
potential. This is followed by understanding the diverse international world, how to manage
entrepreneurial activity in such a world, and how to utilise appropriate techniques to identify
the right ideas and opportunities. In phase two, the focus will be on functional management
principles and how these are related to improving entrepreneurial businesses and/or projects.
In the last phase, students will need to conduct thorough research and compile an integrated
business plan for the new business or project. This business plan will meet the need of a Masters
level dissertation. The delivery of this programme will occur in three ways, namely direct
face-to-face sessions, through collaborative technologies; on-line delivery (blended learning)
comprising of on-line discussion forums, web conferencing, journal / paper reviews and reading
materials; and personal tutorials to suit the requirements of the students where applicable.
What certification will I get?
The MA in Global Entrepreneurship is validated by Coventry University. On successful
completion of the course graduates will receive a Postgraduate MA in Global Entrepreneurship
(Level 9 equivalent).
What can I do after this course?
Students will be able to consistently apply knowledge concerning current research issues
in Global Entrepreneurship in an original manner and produce work which aspires to be at
the forefront of the developments in the programme of study. Students will also be able to
extrapolate from existing research, scholarship and/or fieldwork findings to identify new or
revised approaches to practice and demonstrate a critical awareness of current issues in
business and management which is informed by leading edge research and/or practice
in the field of entrepreneurship.
