7. Application of Utilitarianism Ethics
WINES & NARCOTICS
According to John Stuart Mills, there are two kinds of pleasure
i. Qualitative (Intellectual or High level pleasure)
ii. Quantitative (Sensory or Lower pleasure)
According to theory pleasure over pain is better and ideal.
Ethically consuming wine is a short term pleasure & pain is for a
longer term.
Ethically consuming drugs like meth that makes you happy and is
deadly addictive is pleasurable
Therefore even according to John Stuart Mill, Wine & Narcotics is a lower
pleasure.
8. Application of Utilitarianism Ethics
WEAPONS
According to the hedonistic law pleasure over pain is more essential and
therefore weapons have some arguments rather keeping weapons is a
Pleasure or Pain.
Weapons inflict pain to others but according to the utilitarianism theory
inflicting pain to the minorities to save the masses or for the pleasure of
the larger number is applicable.
Super Powers keeping weapons or every country keeping weapons to save
their territory or integrity is fair. Like wise if having a war which is inflicting
pain to the under developed countries and giving pleasure to the super
powers is also fair for utilitarianism.
9. What does RELIGION say??
In Islam & Christianity a person is allowed to carry such a weapon as long
as he does not pose a threat to the lives or health of innocent people.
One should abide by the laws of the country in which he lives, as breaking
these laws is not allowed in Islam, unless they contradict the laws of Islam
itself.
In Islam & Christianity whatever effects the relationship with God is
prohibited, thus drugs effects the brain and mental health as it looses
connection with God.
Both bible & Christian tradition taught that alcohol is a gift from GOD that
makes life more joyous but that over indulgence leading to drunkenness is
sinful or at least a vice.
