Demographic Issues <ul><li>Countries that have been badly hit by HIV has shown a serious mortality surge and life expectancy drop in the last decade. </li></ul><ul><li>By 2005, 25 million people had died; and an estimated 39 million were living with HIV. </li></ul><ul><li>It is forth among the leading causes of death worldwide and first in sub-Saharan Africa . </li></ul>

Health Issues <ul><li>The infected population is prone to developing other diseases as their immune system is suppressed. </li></ul><ul><li>Without life saving drugs one third of children born infected with HIV die before their first birth day. </li></ul><ul><li>The expense for treatment is increasing on an alarming rate. </li></ul><ul><li>Allocation of scarce resources for the treatment of HIV can divert attention from other health issues that demand attention. </li></ul>
