19. Twin Plate
Twin Plate design is based upon two spring loaded plates anchored on
a centrally positioned hinge pin. These components are housed within
the valve body.

20. Sprung Disc
Sprung Disc valves, typically, have four main components: body, disc,
spring and spring retainer.
Examples of common options:
• Cracking pressure can be tailored to suit customer requirements by
sizing a spring to suit.
• Seating can be soft (for zero leakage) or metal-metal
• Valve can be installed in any position (Orientations other than
horizontal require engineering input to compensate for disc weight
and flow direction).

21. Swing Type
Swing type check valves can contain as little as two main components but
generally consist of a body, a seat and a disc.
Swing type wafer check valves have the advantage that they are of a
compact design and low cost in comparison to their full bodied variants.
Examples of common options -:

• Disc’s can be spring loaded
• External lever and weight

Introduction to Anderson Stewart: Anderson Stewart produces castings in a wide range of alloys, both ferrous and non-ferrous, and supply international customers in the United Kingdom and overseas.Over the last ten years they’ve introduced new robotics and state of the art melting and blasting equipment in order to increase capacity and to automate the process.Anderson Stewart fully engage with their customers design teams and engineers to maximise the casting process and produce the best cost effective casting to save on machining and secondary operations where possible.They have years of experience in taking complex assemblies and fabrications which result in a high value to the customer, and redesigning them into a one piece casting with minimal machining requirements.

Introduction to Precision Tooling : In 2011 Precision Tooling Services relocated in to the centre of Scotland’s civil aerospace industry in Prestwick, Ayrshire.They provide a maintenance and manufacturing service for major aerospace companies and the new location within the aerospace park allows them to work closely with those customers. Recent additions to the facility’s existing CNC milling, turning, grinding, wire and spark erosion centres are:Doosan Puma 700LM CNC lathe - This Puma is the most powerful lathe in its class and adds huge capacity to CNC turning capability for parts weighing in at 7 Tonnes.Webster Bennett 48EV elevating rail vertical turret lathe - The versatile vertical lathe adds very large turning and boring capability to the well stocked conventional machine shop over and above an extensive array of the latest CNC machine tools.A requirement for A350 Airbus components, Doosan DNM650 CNC vertical 5-axis Doosan VC630 machining centre - with coolant mist and dust extraction systems for the machining of composite parts used in some of the A350’s leading edge structures. This facility now provides for the wet and dry machining of all modern aerospace and automotive materials.

Abacus Valves specialise in the manufacture of Wafer Check Valves;These type of valves are often referred to as Non-Return Valves, which means they normally allow substances to flow through in only one direction.There are normally two openings in the body, one for fluid to enter and the other for fluid to leave, known as two-port valves.They can be designed for a specific cracking pressure, which is the minimum pressure required to lift the disc (or the plate) off the seat and induce flow.Check valves are installed in pipeline systems to allow fluid flow (liquid or gas) in one direction only and close automatically if flow is interrupted or reversed. They’re used in chemical and power plant systems, and many other industrial processes, for example, when multiple gases are mixed into one gas stream.Some of the common benefits of Wafer Check Valves are listed here. One important aspect is the prevention of reverse flow, which can cause valve slamming and pressure surges. This can result in damage to piping systems and rotating equipment designed to rotate in one direction.

Abacus has full in-house design capabilities. Products and bespoke designs are processed through a 3D Computer Aided Engineering package.Full transfer of files for CNC programming and Cast Simulation allows for interaction in-house, and with foundry or sub contractors. We also carry out independent consultancy work for established valve manufacturers and contractors.
Recently at Abacus Valves;There’s been a significant investment in our facilities, with the addition of an automated test rig, Lapping Machines and further CNC machining in the form of a 3 axis Mill, which has contributed to an increase in our production capacity.We identified a need for key personnel; a Purchasing & Scheduling Manager, Supply Chain Engineer and Technical Sales.Software has been upgraded to ensure we plan our production schedules more effectively, with staff training is ongoing at present. Initial enquiries and research undertaken into specific overseas valve markets (Brazil, Russia,South Africa).
Abacus plans for the future include continuing to develop overseas representation and export markets,and looking at ways to expand our presence online.We’re also committed to increasing our capacity by finalising a move to larger premises within the year.<END> Thank you for listening etc.
