2. POSITIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES HANDLED AT MDL
I. Addnl. G.M. (Submarine Building – Design), July 2008 to Nov 2008.
Broad Responsibilities:
• Liaison with the Collaborator / their reps. to get the design drawings and documents as per the built
program. Get the drawings refined / modified to suit the yard requirements. Issue drawings for repair
/ refit projects.
• Manage the IT cell and the Technical Data Package system for making the Drawings Documents
available to the Users.
• Liaison with the Owner, Basic Designer & OEMs and resolve issues if any related to the design /
procurement aspects. Prepare Requisitions and conduct Technical Negotiations.
• Co-ordinate with other departments in resolving the issues. Attend Meetings, Reviews etc.
• Administration of the Department.
II. D.G.M. (Ship Building Design – Engg) July 2005 to June 2008.
Broad Responsibilities:
• PROJECT EXECUTIVE (Design), September 2007 to June 2008, for MSV project.
• Additionally Design - Engineering (Mechanical) section head, July 2005 to June 2008.
Project Executive (P.E.-Design) of Multi Support Vessel (export) project for Great Ship Global Services
a subsidiary of Great Eastern shipping. The OICs of various disciplines viz. Structural, Engineering,
Electrical and Outfitting report directly to P.E.-Design:-
• Prepare / verify detailed design working drawings and documents for the MSV project in the
scheduled time meeting the specification and class approved drawings.
• Liaison with the Owner, Basic Designer, OEMs and DNV reps. and resolve issues if any related to
the design / procurement aspects.
• Co-ordinate within the various disciplines of Design Department for meeting the schedule, co-
ordinate with other departments, conduct various project reviews.
• Prepare / verify the technical specifications for procurement, co-ordinate with the commercial and
planning department and conduct the technical negotiations. To prepare / verify various technical
documentations required for the validation of design and confirm that the performances meet the
specified design targets. Conduct technical negotiations for purchase of right equipments at
negotiated price.
As Design – Engineering Section Head, having 20 Engineers and 42 Draughtsman working on various
Warship and Commercial ship projects. :-
• Allocate resources amongst the various projects for their optimum utilization and also meeting the
requirement of the various projects.
• Guide the project OICs in the Engineering sections, technically and administratively.
• Liaison with Navy / owners for Naval/Commercial projects and OEMs and resolves issues
connected with the projects.
• The general administration of the department for efficient functioning.
• Attend meetings / management reviews.
III. CHIEF MANAGER, Ship Building Design Engineering, July 2001 to June 2005.
Project officer - OIC Engineering & Deputy Project Executive for Project - 17 (Naval Frigate Project)
The detail design activities for the Engineering (Mechanical) Section are listed below. The Drawing / Modeling
Software used is ‘TRIBON’. For other general drawing work ‘AutoCAD’ Software is used. Pipenet, Sim-Smart
software used for pressure / flow analysis.
• Detail Design of System Schematic Drawings (P&ID) including BOMs, verification and approval
from concerned Naval Authorities.
3. • Preparation / Verification of Technical Specification for Equipments such as Gas Turbines, Gear
Boxes, Thrust Blocks, Steering Gear, Diesel Engines, Diesel Alternators, Propulsion Systems,
Compressors, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Plants, Sewage Treatment Plants, Reverse Osmosis
plants and other Main and auxiliary Equipments on board, as well as for BOMs generated based on
system schematics.
• Evaluating the proposals by the prospective vendors, negotiate for the optimum technical
requirements from each vendor for further commercial negotiations and price negotiations. Technical
scrutiny of drawings and QAPs, forwarding comments to third party for approval.
• Preparation of test and trial documents for the Equipments mentioned above, auxiliary systems as
well as the ship’s systems and their approval by the Naval authorities.
• Preparation of the documents / drawings for installation of Equipments mentioned above.
• Preparation of special purpose documents for critical activities such as ‘Installation and Alignment
Document’ for Shafting and Propulsion Equipments.
• Preparation / Verification of Ship’s Machinery Compartment Equipment Layouts, system
Arrangement Layouts and Composite Layouts as well as manufacturing drawings for yard fabricated
items including jigs, special supports/fixtures as well as the Pipe fabrication drawings for CNC
machines.
IV. DEPUTY MANAGER /MANAGER, Ship Building Design Engineering, July 1991 to June 2001.
• Successfully handled the drawing / documentation work of project -15 (Naval Destroyer project) for
Design - Engineering activities up to the commissioning of the 1st ship of Destroyer - Class “INS
DELHI”.
The work includes developing detail design drawings from the basic drawings provided by Naval
Authorities as well as the other documentation work up to validation of Design.
• Successfully handled the drawing / documentation work for Ranjeet Sagar Dam project work for
Himachal Pradesh Government, up to timely handing over the TUG and Barges for the
project.(Inland Water Project)
The work includes developing the basic design drawings from conceptual design, class approval from
IRS and developing detail design there after up to the generation of production drawings as well as
the trial documents.
V. ASST. / DEPUTY MANAGER. – Submarine Construction - Engineering, March 1987 to June 1991.
• Successfully handled the Engine Room construction activities in submarine project up to the
commissioning of first of class submarine “INS Shalki” to Indian Navy in 1991.
The work involved Installation/Erection of Equipments and auxiliaries, fabrication / erection of
various associated piping systems, testing as per the protocols to the satisfaction of QA / Submarine
Overseeing Team and commissioning the Equipments and associated systems in Harbor and at Sea to
the satisfaction of Indian Navy.
VI. ASSISTANT MANAGER 1985 to 1987, SENIOR ENGINEER 1981 - 1985, Management Trainee in
1980 to 1981 , Shipbuilding Construction – Engineering : 1980 to 1987.
• Successfully handled the construction activities in Warship project, up to the commissioning of last
frigate of Leander class “INS Vindyagiri” and first 2 of the 3 Godavari class frigates “INS Godavari”
and “INS Ganga” to Indian Navy in years 1981, 1985 and 1987 respectively.
The work involved Installation/Erection of Equipments and auxiliaries outside the Engine Rooms viz
Air conditioning plants , Diesel Generation sets, sewage treatment plants, steering gears, galley /
pantry / laundry / accommodation equipments, fabrication / erection of various associated piping
systems, testing as per system requirements to the satisfaction of SQC / Warship Overseeing Team
and commissioning the Equipments and associated systems in Harbour and at Sea, to the satisfaction
of Indian Navy.

FOREIGN ASSIGNMENTS IN MDL
• As a shipyard representative for co-ordination of activities with OEMs, Integrator /Consultant and
Indian Navy for Propulsion System Integration (PSI) for Project 17 frigate project, at M/S Alstom
(PSI Consultant) Nantes, France, in July 2000.
The Marine System Supplier (MSS) job for LM2500 GT was part of shipyard scope of work.
• As a shipyard representative for pre-contract discussions with the Designer “Marin Teknikk -
Norway” designated by the Owner “M/S Greatship Global Services” (Subsidiary of G.E. Shipping) to
finalise the scope of Basic Design for Multi support Vessel, in October 2007.
