2. WHAT IS WASTE?
Waste are unwanted or unusable
materials. Waste is any substance
which is discarded after primary
use, or is worthless, defective and
of no use. Examples include
municipal solid waste, hazardous
waste, wastewater, radioactive
waste, and others.
3. FIVE TYPES OF WASTE:
1. Liquid Waste
Liquid waste is commonly found both in households as well as in industries. This waste includes
dirty water, organic liquids, wash water, waste detergents and even rainwater.
2. Solid Rubbish
Solid rubbish can include a variety of items found in your household along with commercial and
industrial locations.
Solid rubbish is commonly broken down into the following types:
Plastic waste, Paper/card waste , Ceramics and glass, Tins n metals
3. Organic Waste
Organic waste is another common household. All food waste, garden waste, manure and rotten
meat are classified as organic waste
4. Recyclable Rubbish
Recyclable rubbish includes all waste items that can be converted into products that can be used
again. Solid items such as paper, metals, furniture and organic waste can all be recycled.
5. Hazardous Waste
Hazardous waste includes all types of rubbish that are flammable, toxic, corrosive and reactive.
4. INDUSTRIAL WASTE
• Industrial waste is the waste
produced by industrial activity
which includes any material
that is rendered useless during
a manufacturing process such
as that of factories, industries,
mills.
• Examples:
chemical solvents, pigments,
sludge, metals, ash, paints,
paper products, industrial by-
products, and radioactive
wastes.

Household Waste, also known as
domestic waste or residential
waste, is refuse generated by
households. Non-hazardous
waste is often made up of food
scraps, newspapers, bottles,
cans, etc. and parts of it that can
be recycled.
