Solid waste management is a term that is used to refer to the
process of collecting and treating solid wastes. It also offers
solutions for recycling items that do not belong to garbage or
trash.
3. Littering and dumping allows biodegradable
materials to decompose under uncontrolled and
unhygienic conditions which produces foul smell
and breeds various types of insects and
infectious organisms besides spoiling the
aesthetics of the site.
4. Industrial solid wastes are sources of toxic
metals and hazardous wastes , which may
spread on land and cause changes in
physicochemical and biological characteristics
thereby affecting the productivity of soil. Toxic
substances may leach or percolate to
contaminate the ground water.
