2. Consumer Data Right
• July 2017 - Federal Treasurer commissioned a review into Open Banking
• May 2018 - Federal Government agreed to the recommendations of the review

choose to share their data with trusted recipients
only for the purposes that they have authorised.”

3. CDR – Progress to date
• 4 banks have implemented authenticated APIs
• 23 banks have implemented product reference data
• 2 accredited data recipients in production
• > 2 million API calls
• Energy sector is now being developed
• More deployments in Nov 20, Feb 21 and July 21

4. CDR Standards – Progress to date
• 2.5 years in development so far
• > 90 separate consultations
• 100s of contributors
• 1000s of contributions
• > 100 attendees to the weekly implementation calls
The standards have been a community effort

5. Standards Overview
• Process inspired by Open Source practices
– Radical transparency
– Submissions judged by content not author
– Iterative
• Developed primarily on GitHub

6. Challenges
• How do we avoid creating a camel?
• How do we manage change in a complex network?
• How do we manage the contradictions?
– Don’t be prescriptive vs Tell me exactly what to do
– Give us certainty vs Change it immediately
– Plan for the future vs No idea what the future is

7. Things that have worked
• Focus on the community first
• Always play the ball
• Stubborn when correct – Humble when wrong

8. My hopes for the future
• What if we ramped up the pace significantly?
• What if sectors starting to do this voluntarily?
• What if CDR included actions and updates?
• What if Social Media was designated?
