What is HAZARD ?
A hazard is a situation that poses a level of threat to life,
health, property, or environment.
What is Industrial Hazard ?
Condition produced by industries that may cause injury or death
to personnel or loss of product or property.
Types of Industrial Hazards:
1. Chemical Hazards
2. Physical Hazards
3. Biological Hazards
Types of Industrial Hazards:
1. Chemical Hazard:
Any substance that can cause harm, primarily to people.
2. Physical Hazard:
 A type of occupational hazard that involves environmental hazards that
can cause harm with or without contact.
 It includes ergonomic hazards, radiation, heat and cold stress, vibration
hazards, and noise hazards.
3. Biological Hazard:
 Refer to biological substances that pose a threat to the health of living
organisms, primarily that of humans.
 This includes medical waste or samples of a microorganism, virus or toxin
(from a biological source) that can affect human health.
Managing Industrial Hazards:
Hazard Management System
 Setting up of HMS
 HMS is the basis for ensuring that
installations are safely designed,
built, maintained, modified and
operated.
Structure of
HMS
Managing Industrial Hazards: cont …
 Hazard Identification and Assessment
 Planned Inspections
 Checklist
 To evaluate equipment, materials and procedures of any work process
 Task Analysis
 Identifies critical tasks
 Task performance frequency
 Probability of loss after completion
 Experience
 Current and past experience of key personnel
 FMEA
 Failure Mode and Effect Analysis
 Concentrates on cause and effects of failure of any equipment or
component
 Emergency Planning
 TRAINING of personnels
Construction Accidents:
Accidents occurring on construction sites.
Safety Signs:
Commands
Warnings
Information
Don’t DO
Must DO
Warning
Safe
Fire
Construction Accidents: cont …
Main Triggering Factors:
D.U.T.C.H
 Distraction
 Unfamiliarity
 Tiredness
 Complacency
 Hurry
Construction Accidents: cont …
Breakdown of fatalities according to accident type:
56% fall from height
21% trapped by something collapsing or overturning
10% struck by a moving vehicle
5% contact with electricity
4% struck by falling objects during machine lifting of materials
3% contact with moving machinery
1% exposure to a hot or harmful substance
Construction Accidents: cont …
Few Facts:
 First week on each site is the most dangerous
 Accidents are more frequent at the end of the day
 Small building jobs are the most risky
 Safety Helmets, Hi-viz Jackets, Safety Boots ; do prevent injury and death
 Light weight shoes are not suitable at such sites
 Roofs are always a risky place at construction site
Construction Accidents: cont …
Special care needed during mentioned practises:
 Assure safe access on site
 Working at height and edges of buildings
 Using ladders and scaffoldings
 Using any chemical on site
 Evacuation works
 Lifting or handling of heavy materials
 Working near or with crane
 Working with electric wires or equipment
 Working near fire works
PPE on construction site should me MUST.
Under no circumstances worker should put himself in
DANGER.
THANK YOU !
