2. Introduction
o India is a very old country.
o Irony: Goddess with names Lakshmi and Durga
worshipped but women respected least.
o Brutal crimes against women are occurring daily.
o Includes-
-Murders: Dowry deaths,Female infanticides
-Sexual crimes: Rape, Human trafficking
-Domestic violence
-Forced and child marriage
-Acid throwings
-Abductions

3. Statistics of 2016
• In 2016,India reported 106 rapes per day.
• Large % from age group 0-12.
• In 94.6% cases,offenders were known to
victims.

4. Effective Measures for Women
Safety
o Always carry some handy weapons for challenging
situations(Pepper spray, knife, etc.)
o Wear dress covering whole body.
o Avoid going outside at odd times (when it’s dark).
o Do not travel long distances alone.
o Stay within a limit.

o Break the ‘Great Wall of Shame’.
o Make women aware of their rights.
o Promote active participation of women in
society.
o Discourage objectification of women.
o Moral science classes and sex education in
schools.
o Parents should treat their children equally.

oppression.
o While moving out alone,keep location tracker
ON.
o Inform your daily programmes to
family/friends before leaving.
o Teach girls different self-defence sports.
o Strict enforcement of the laws and
punishment of the culprits in appropriate
ways.

8. o React and let ‘them’ know that their behaviour is
improper.
o Help the victims to get justice.
o Acceptance is half the battle won. Raising our
voice has to be the next step.
