Roll of educationto club social evils like-
Violence against women, Drug abuse and
Alcoholism
Violence against women has become a global problem. The first
and best the best thing to do eradicate violence against women
is to do away with the age old discrimination between the two
gender from all walks of life .so prevention of the social evil
should start early in life, by educating young boys and boys
together, promoting respectful relationship and gender
equality. Though this has been recommended by experts on
education and commissions on education ,it has not been
effectively implemented .
In this context it is worth mentioning the
fact that the fifty-seventh section of the commission on the
status of women has focused on presentation through the
promotion on gender equality, women’s empowerment and
their enjoyment of humanrights. It also means making the home
and public space suffer for women’s and girls, ensureing
women’s economic autonomy and security ,and increase
women’s participation and decision making powers-in home
and relationships, as well as in public life and politics. Working
with men and boys helps accelerate progress in preventing and
ending violence against women and girls. They can begin to
challenge the deeply rooted inequalities and social NorAm that
perpetuate men’s control and power over women and reinforce
tolerance for violence against women and girls .The curriculum
Of formal education of girls besides an awareness of the
gravity of the problem must be created the media and social
media .
It has already been mentioned elsewhere in
this book that education, espically value based education is a
panacea for all social evils. For this social evil also education
and non formal education with specially designed curriculum is
the only effectivesolution.UN women ,in partnership with the
world Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS)has
developed a global non-formal education curriculum to engage
young people in efforts to prevent and violence against girls and
women ‘Voices against Violence ‘ is a co-educational curriculum
designed for various age groups ranging from 5 to 25 years. It
provides young people with tool and expertise to understand
the root cause of violence in their communities,to educate and
involve their peers and communities to prevent such
violence, and to learn about where to access support if violence
is experienced. It is good that Indian also adapt them to fulfil
her needs.
Michael Elliott ,President and CEO ,Ravi Verma discussed how
the developing world can achieve greater gender equality at a
panel discussion and suggested the following top 5 things the
world must to do reduse Violence against women and girls,
 Provide with access to legal representation and
opportunities to purpose justice against perpetratorsof
violence through the formal legal system.
 Promote gender equality in schools and widen access to
education for girls.
 End forced early marriage and premature pregnancy
,leading cause of death of girls between 15 to 19 years of
age .
 Bring greater attention to violence that is perpetrared by a
partner or spouse.
 Revise marriage law that are institutionally biased against
women, particularly those that deny women custody over
their children ,inheritance and land rights in cases of death
separation or divorce.
Drugs and Alcoholism.
The whole world is in the grip of these social evils. There are
laws preventing the use of drugs. But these are more violated
than observed. There are cases in our country where total
prohibition was introduced.Teacher must identify the social evils
prevailing among students
1. Use of tobacco
2. Use of drug
3. Immoral activities
4. Ragging
5. Cyber crime
 Use of tobacco can be curtailed in 2 ways
 Use with the help of PTA and community stop
easy availability of tobacco.
 Using audio visual aids make students aware the
ill effect of tobacco use.
Asocial evil is a socially undesirable act or custom practiced by
people which has a damaging effect on the welfare of the
society.correption,communalism,superstition,consumerism,dow
rysystem, gender discrimination, alcoholism, are some of the
common social evils in our society. The decline of value is the
major cause behind the ever growing number of social
evils.Value based education is the only effective weapon to fight
against these evils.Proper legislation ,vocationalisation of
education, conscientisation are also measures to combact social
evils.
Even though many social reformation act have been enacted
social evils are still prevalent in our society.Social evils exist in a
society due to the lack of values.Values are closely related to
the noble aims of human life. For the achievements of these
aims man frames certain philosophical guide line or notions
that direct human behaviour along desirable channels .Social
evils can be completed only by the instillation of values among
the members of the society.Enactments has certain limitations
inthe curtailed only when the members of the society makes an
opinion against the social evil from within.
