Botulism is a rare but serious paralytic illness caused by a nerve toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It can cause blurred vision, drooping eyelids, slurred speech, and paralysis of the respiratory muscles. There are three main forms of botulism: foodborne, wound, and infant botulism.
