Extract connection :
We are extracting the data from source level to tableau environment .

Internal mechanism for extract connection:
image (.tde)(Tableau data extract)
When ever w eare connecting with source system we will take the entire data in the form of snapshot it will be in
the format of image but tableau cannot recognize image data so that we will send the snapshot to data engine.
Data engine having some inmemory capability to handle the data as well as it will change the image data in the form
of normal data and it will save in the file extension of .tde (tableau data extract)

We don’t need to query each and every time on the source system so that it will improve the
performance.

Dis adv.:

When ever data is updating we will not get the updated data but we have a option known as
extract refresh we can make use to get the updated data.
But when ever we are getting the updated data it will replace previous data with new data.

Before starting the extract mechanism we are applying the filter on source system.
We can filter the data in live connections also by the help of add (filter)
