The CD cover for Nizlopi's single "The JCB Song" depicts the band member Luke as a child drawn onto lined paper, representing his past and personal story told in the song. The inside shows Luke and John playing acoustic guitar and double bass, representing their folk/indie music. It lists the songs "The JCB Song" and "Clear" to promote both, and advertises their upcoming album. The back references images and lyrics from the "The JCB Song" music video, linking it all together around Luke's childhood imagination.
1. Analysis of CD cover pack
Nizlopi
Straight away from the front cover image that is shown I can tell that clearly by the image on the
front it is the single for Nizlopi the JCB song. This is
shown by the animated picture of the band singer
Luke as a child in his dad’s JCB. And of course the
name of the band up the top. This look of lines
where the name goes gives it that childhood look
which you might find on a child’s school book where
they have to put their name. Also the fact that you
can see it is a picture and then cello taped to a piece
of lined paper shows the audience that it is possibly
a memory that the band are sticking down. Knowing
that the JCB song is about Luke’s past and his
relationship with his dad helps specify that this
cover is meant to look as if Luke had done it when
he was a child telling a personal story.
Then when you look into the CD you can see obviously the CD
and also the inside cover. From what you can make out on the
inside cover you cansee the two band members Luke and
john. As you can see within the photograph it’s of them
playing a song, Luke with his acousticguitar and john with his
double base. This represents clearly what type of music they
produce just from the image. The reason for this is because
their music is on the lines of folk/indie music and what better
way than with folk and indie instruments, thedouble bass as a
folk instrument and the acoustic guitar as indie. Also on the inside cover you can again see the
animated drawing of Luke in the JCB which links to the fact that it is their single for “the JCBsong”.
Below the images are the names of the songs on the single. These are The JCB song and also a song
called clear. This tells me that Nizlopi have made a new song and are also trying to promote that
song through the use of this single. Then lastly an image of their album coming out next year. This
has the impact of trying to promote their new music further. The CD as you can see though is quite
plain with just the title of the song and the
band’s name.
2. Then lastly on the back you have a see through case but on the side again they have the song on the
track but at the same time an image of a robot transformer on a cloud. In the music video of “the
JCB song” there is a scene where you see a transformer flying and also the lyrics say about how Luke
wants to transform. SO this touch at the back links in nicely to the point of the song and the CD
cover which bases around Luke’s imagination as a child and is portrayed through images of
transformers and JCB’s.
From this Didgi pack I can see that between the two man band there is a strong relationship to do
with friendship because of the fact that they are singing and laughing together, this portrays a
relationship between the two men. It is mostly the same for the video as well because you can see a
clear relationship between Luke and his dad because of the fact that they together in the jcb,
through the lyrics you see a link about representation of fatherhood as Luke sings about how his dad
is great “Me and my dad having a top laugh” and also “Like Bruce Lee” this shows that Luke thinks
the world of his dad. Also though you can see a strong bond between Luke and his father from the
visual video in the sense that Luke is traveling with his dad on an adventure. The representation you
get from this would be that Luke’s dad as well as another dad is there for Luke when he needs him
and the father is second nature to his child. If you look at Maslow’s hierarchy of needs you can see
that this cover fits in well with The love and belonging section for bother the protagonist characters
in the animation and the two friends in real life, Because of friendship and a love for their dad and
friend. Also though I get a feel that the cover would come under the self-actualization section in the
sense that the cover and video is very unique and creative. This relates back to my music video well
with the fact that folk/indie music is very creative.
