To become an RBI Grade B officer is not easy. It takes much hard work and toil.
The exam (RBI Grade B exam) one needs to take to become a Grade B officer is held annually
and is applied for by almost one lakh candidates every year. Out of those, only about 150-200
get to be Grade B officers. So, you can imagine how tough the competition is.
That is the reason why so many of the past year’s RBI Grade B toppers advise new applicants
to check out the RBI Grade B cut off scores of the past years.
Doing so gives us an idea about the difficulty level or the kind of competition that can be
expected out of the upcoming RBI Grade B exams.
To check your Grade B cut offs, and your mark sheets, you can go over to the RBI website
and punch in with your date of birth and roll number.
Doing so will reveal to you your mark sheet. You can download it and compare your scores
with the cut offs of the particular phase to see how you fared in the exam.
I have talked about how to check your Grade B cut offs in detail in a section further down
below.
That said, in this blog, I have explained in detail the topic of RBI Grade B cut off and its
determinants. I have also shared the Phase 1 & 2 exam cut offs from 2017 to 2021.
So, without wasting any more of your time, let’s begin.

What Cut Off really means?
Now, let us take a moment to understand what cut off really means.
So, as a general rule, the RBI Grade B cut offs for any of the phases basically stand for the
marks secured by the last candidate to clear a particular phase and qualify for the next
round.
For example, suppose the score “x” is the cut off mark for the Phase 1 exam. What that means
is, the score “x” was the score secured by the last candidate to qualify for Phase 2.

2. RBI Grade B Cut Off 2021 Release Date
Talking about the topic of RBI Grade B cut off release dates, the Phase 1 cut offs are usually
released 3-4 weeks after the Phase 1 exams are held, as for the Phase 2 cut offs, they are
usually released after the declaration of the final RBI Grade B exam results.
Check Grade B final exams results, here.
The cut off release dates for 2021 have been shared in the table below:
Exam RBI Grade B Cut Off Release Dates
RBI Grade B Phase 1 31 March 2021
RBI Grade B Phase 2 20 September 2021
The RBI Grade B Phase 1 exam was held on the 6th March 2021 and the cut offs for the same
were released on the 31st March 2021.
As for the release dates of 2021 Phase 2 cut offs, they were released on the 20th of September
2021, along with the overall RBI Grade B cut off marks.
The Phase 2 exam was held on 31st March for DEPR and DSIM candidates and 1st April for DR-
General candidates
RBI Grade B Cut Off 2021
The RBI Grade B Phase 2 final cut offs were announced on the 20th of September 2021. As for
the Phase 1 cut offs, it was released in the month of March, this year.
An important thing to keep in mind about RBI Grade B cut offs is that, in order to clear phase 1,
you need to score above both the overall and the sectional cut off marks.
This means that the various sections of Phase 1 paper carry their own separate cut off marks,
implying that to qualify for the Phase 2 paper you would need to score above the sectional
cut off of each of the Phase 1 subjects.
However, in the Phase 2 paper, there are no sectional cut offs, so to qualify Phase 2 you
would need to score above the overall Phase 2 cut offs.
That is the only way you’d be able to make it to the interview round.
Another important thing here, the marks that you obtain in Phase 2 and interview together
determine your selection/recruitment. So, it benefits to score well above the Phase 2 cut off
Therefore, to score well above the sectional as well as the overall cut off marks of Phase 1,
and the overall cut off of phase 2, you need to be thorough with the number of questions
you need to attempt and prepare accordingly.
Looking for a preparation strategy to beat the cut offs, check the linked blog.
RBI Grade B Cut Off 2021 – Phase 1 (Prelims)
The RBI Grade B Phase 1 cut off for the year 2021 was comparatively lower than that of the
previous year’s (2019’s) Phase 1 exams. This was due to the moderate to hard level of difficulty
of the exam conducted this year.
As mentioned earlier, it came out on the 31st March this year, and it contains sectional cut offs
according to the various subjects of the 2021 RBI Grade B Phase 1 exam.

Now that I have covered the cut off for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the RBI Grade B exam 2021, you
might want to look at the previous years’ cut off marks as well. I have shared those further
down the article.
Let’s now take a look at the steps you’d need to follow to check the RBI Grade B cut offs 2021.
How to Check RBI Grade B Cut Off 2021
6. To check the RBI Grade B cut offs for 2021, you can refer to the steps I have written below. An
important thing to note is that the steps to check the Phase 1 cut offs, and the Phase 2 cut offs
will mostly be the same, except for the 4th step where you need to choose one out of the
two:
Step 1:
Go to the official website of the RBI: https://www.rbi.org.in/. After the page opens scroll
down to the bottom of the page and look for the “more links” section and click on
“Opportunities@RBI” in that section.
Step 2:
On the new page that opens up, hover the cursor over the drop-down button called,
“Current Vacancies”, and then click on the button called, “Results”.
Step 3:
On the new page that opens, you’ll find a list of links on the top right corner of the page in
the form of years, from 2021, down to 2017, and also an “Archive” button after that. Click on,
“2021”. On the dropbox that opens up is a list of Months. Click on “All months” written at the
top.
Step 4:
Next, on the page that opens look for the link called “Marksheet and cut off marks for the
Phase-I online examination for recruitment of Officers in Grade ‘B’ (General) – DR- Batch Year-
7. 2021”, and click on it if you want to check the RBI Grade B Phase 1 cut offs.
OR
To check the 2021 RBI Grade B Phase 2 cut offs, you should look for the link called,” Marks
sheet and cut-off marks for the of Officers in Grade ‘B’ (GEN) – DR- Batch Year – 2021”,
and click on it.
Step 5:
After clicking on the link of your choice, a new page opens up where you can see the Cut off
marks of the RBI Grade B Phase of your choice.
Determinants of RBI Grade B Cut Offs
The RBI Grade B cut offs for each year depends on certain determinants. I have listed them
below:
The Difficulty level of Exams of the particular year.
The Total number of Grade B vacancies released by the RBI for the year.
The number of candidates that appear for the exam of the particular year.
The Normalisation process employed by the RBI.
To elaborate on the kind of correlation that exists between the determinants written above
and the cut offs for a particular year, it can be said that more the difficulty level of the paper,
the lower will the cut offs for the year, higher the number of candidates applying for the
exams that year, higher will be the cut offs, and so forth.
RBI Grade B Previous Years’ Cut Off
As I have mentioned before, glancing through previous years’ RBI Grade B cut offs will give
you an idea about the marks you’d need to secure in the upcoming exam in order to clear it.
Doing so will allow you to score well above the sectional as well as overall cut off marks of
Phase 1 & 2 papers. Furthermore, you may also utilise this information along with the exam
pattern to understand the number of questions you need to attempt and prepare accordingly.
Check the Phase 1 & Phase 2 exam patterns.
Thus, in the sections below I have shared with you the RBI Grade B Cut Off (of both phases)
for 2019, 2018, and 2017. Go through them and plan out your next course of action
accordingly.

Anuj Jindal on September 28, 2021 at 3:59 pm
Hello Sakshi,
Yes, there will be normalisation in the RBI Grade B cut offs as the paper is being held in 2 shifts. So, there are 2 sets that are prepared for the exam.
Hence, there is a possibility that there can be a difference in the difficulty level of the questions asked in both sets. So, normalisation plays an important
role here.
