2. Planning
- Research Music videos (including past students)
- Re-create websites, digipacks, photographs, etc. For skills
development
- Plan EVERYTHING (equipment, location, lighting, costume, mise-
en-scene, etc)
- Make timeline of song and mark out certain points for band, dance,
narrative, etc.
- Plan everything down to the last detail on everything
- Create 70-100 blog posts
- START EARLY
3. Lighting
Make sure all elements of Mise-en-
scene are visible
Add depth by carefully placing the
lights
4. On set
Do an equipment check
Sing along, don’t mime
Do full length takes of the song, even at one camera angle
Have everything organised on the day (hair, makeup, costume, etc)
Aim for 10 takes per day
Take photos of the shoot!
Make a time lapse of shoots
Blog how the shots went (what went well, what didn’t, and what can
be improved)
5. Editing
Sync up audio and footage before editing
Continuity is key
Ensure cuts are aligned to the beat of the music
Do a full edit first and then go back and play
around with key frames, split screens, etc
Don’t hold shots for too long
Ensure location variety
6. Conclusion?
Altogether these tips are absolutely
perfect guidelines for my music
production and have reminded me of
things that I probably would have
missed out. It has made me feel a lot
more prepared and ready for the
making of the project.
