2. Since the earliest times people used their
fingers to show “how many". Thus thy could
tell number of animals killed on a hunt. They
could the number of people living in a
dwelling.

3.  The abacus was the first calculating
machine. It was developed by the Chinese
about 5000 years ago. It was out of wood and
beads. It could be held and carried around
easily .

4.  In 1617, John Napier, a mathematician from
Scotland, invented calculating rods called
Napier's bones. The rods were used to help
people multiply of a number

5.  Some years later, in 1642, a young French
Mathematician named Blaise Pascal was working in
his fathers office. His job was to add long columns of
tax fingers. Doing all this adding was boring and time
consuming. So he invented this fast speed machine.

6.  The first calculating machine that can be
truly called a computer was invented in
England Charles Babbage in 1835.Babbage’s
dream was to built a machine that could do
more than calculate big numbers.

7.  Herman Hollerith worked at the Census
Bureau in 1880’s. He wanted to come up with
a better way to count the population. So he
invented a device called the Tabulating
Machine.
