Introduction
The origins of Mahidol University date back over 120 years to
the creation of a medical school at Thailand’s first hospital (Siriraj
Hospital). Following many years of expansion, the school became
the University of Medical Sciences in 1943. It was then renamed with
great honor by H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 1969 after his father
H.R.H. Prince Mahidol of Songkla (who is widely regarded as the
‘Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health in Thailand’).
Today, Mahidol University is a comprehensive research-led and
multi-disciplinary institution, with 5 University Hospitals, 17 Faculties,

in Kanchanaburi, Nakhon Sawan and Amnaj Charoen, in the west, central-north
and north-east of Thailand respectively.
From tackling today’s medical, social, and environmental concerns to
addressing the priorities of tomorrow, research at Mahidol University aims to
developinnovativesolutionstoThailand’sandtheworld’smostimportantchallenges.
Crucial to this approach is the belief that research should not merely be geared
towards publication, but engage directly with real-world problems.

Bachelor of Laws Program in Business Law (International Program)
Thailand’s First Undergraduate Degree Program in Business Law Entirely Taught in English
“We supported the launch of the International Program, because our Law
Faculty had the knowledge, skills, and teaching abilities required for this type of legal
education. We also expected the graduates from the International Program at Thammasat
University to meet all the legal requirements for the practice of law in Thailand upon
graduation. Our optimism was based on the presence of faculty members who held
advanced degrees in law from leading law schools around the world and experiences
gained from teaching law in English in their English-based LL.M. program in Business Law
(International Program). These experiences are bolstered by the teaching and exchange
programs maintained by the Faculty of Law with law schools in France, Canada, UK, USA,
Australia, Singapore, Japan and China.

“Theenthusiasmdisplayedbythestudentsand
the ethos of the International Program captured the
spirit of the Faculty of Law in every way. We wanted
an opportunity to teach the next generation of Thai
lawyers in English and show that it could be done. We
see our Program as an opportunity to provide the best
legal education possible to the next generation of Thai
lawyers to graduate from Thammasat University. Another
major focus of the International Program, which is to
expand students’ horizons further by giving them the
chance to spend some time studying abroad in leading
law schools in Europe, North America and Asia.
” Dr. Munin Pongsapan
Director of International Programs
Why an international LL.B.?
Thammasat University Faculty of Law
offers individuals ‘a very unique opportunity’
to study Thai law in English through its
international LL.B. Program in Business Law.
Our Program, a first for Thailand, will prepare
participants to practise Thai law in English
locally, regionally, and internationally. We
believe our next generation of Thai lawyers
must be able to practise law in English.
Without this ability, some may find meeting
the unique legal needs of their clients in the
global marketplace a challenge.
