Decommodification & USP
1. De-commodification
A commodity is something you can buy or sell. It depends on its
status and its value on it
relative scarcity : once the reproduction and distribution of that
commodity becomes
effectively free, then it necessarily loses that value and status.
For example, music can be bought and sold so it is off value and
status but now if
it is made free to the public then it may loose its value and status.
My artist will be exposed to platforms like: iTunes,
Spotify, App Stores, YouTube, CD Stores, SoundCloud,
Radio and many more.
My Digipak will have special
features that you do not get by
just downloading or getting it
form somewhere else e.g. a
signed CD and/or with words of
encouragement. Perhaps I may
sell my Digipak by advertising
some type of competition that
fans will be able to meet the
artist. They will be able to keep
the Digipak as a collection.
A solution of de-commodification
can be to attract the audience with
things that they are interested in.
E.g. products that come with a CD
or Digipak
