A new Texas law requires law enforcement to quickly process rape kits. Under the new law, biological evidence collected from sexual assaults must be submitted to a crime lab within 30 days for testing or tested by law enforcement themselves. The law aims to prevent rape kits from sitting untested on shelves and to provide victims with peace of mind that evidence is being properly processed. The law was sponsored by State Senator Wendy Davis from Fort Worth.
