Great Expectations Vs Great Expectations
It is not challenging for the story of Great Expectations to survive as it had been presented in
Charles Dickens book and faithful film adaptations. In the 1800s, Britain was undoubtedly the
most powerful and great nation in the world. In this society of wealth and power, a gentleman was
one that possessed wealth and power but also of great importance was that those attributes came
from a respectable source. Charles Dickenswrote this novel to warn Britain against the arrogance,
wealth and power its people had in those days, and favoured a gentleman of great humility and
respect for others.
The Victorian idea of a gentleman during these times is based on birth, apparel, social status and
wealth. On the other hand, Dickens portrays a gentleman as someone of generosity, humility, and
kindness. The early life and the upbringing of Dickens allowed him to understand the perspective
of those of low social standing and the effect of their poor upbringing keeping them in the lower
social class. Dickens Great Expectations portrays a very class mobile society in which fortunes can
be made and lost equally suddenly, while by contrast Dickens portrayed the extraordinarily varied
ways in small differences of dress, accent, and action by which people present themselves and act
out their class identities and aspirations.
Someone who came from a respectable and wealthy family in Victorians times was described to be
a gentleman. This is evident in various characters in the book who are

Drug Law
1) An explanation will be made of the current legislation relating to the sale and possession of
illicit drugs. A discussion will then be carried out incorporating two of the moral issues associated
with these activities. Firstly, to what extent the laws relating to illicit drug use should promote good
moral behaviour and discourage immoral or harmful behaviour. Secondly, whether an individual
should have the liberty of choice to partake in drugrelated activities.
The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (MoDA) governs the sale and possession of illicit drugs in the
United Kingdom. This legislation was implemented following the signing of the Single Convention
on Narcotic Drugs 1961. The convention was established by the United Nations (UN) with the
intention to restrict the number of drug related offences. The MoDA 1971 classifies the offences
on possession and supply of drugs. The classification system places ... Show more content on

Consequently, could placing legal restrictions on the choice of engaging in such activities be seen
as an infringement of this liberty. Furthermore, to what extent should the law control an
individual s personal choice? These questions raise a similar response to what was established in
the Hart Devlin debate, which is, a principle of the law is to prevent harm arising to others. For
that reason, it could be argued that provided an individual s actions do not evoke harm on others,
their choices should remain without legal interference. However, the law principally endeavours to
protect individuals from harming others. The law can therefore justify limiting liberty of choice
and individual freedom, provided their actions would result in evoking harm to others. Cited OU

individuals

Japanese American Discrimination
The United States made drastic decisions after the attack of Americans, Pacific Fleet Pearl Harbor.
The Japanese American discrimination, increase went U.S. people told about the Oahu event.
Moreover, the United States made drastic decisions relocating those citizens and non citizen
Japanese individuals living on U.S. soil in a concentration camp on the west coast living behind the

Nascar Plane Crash
Abstract
This paper will review the July 10, 2007 aviation accident involving a Cessna 310R, N501N,
operated by the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing corporate aviation division as a
personal flight. The aircraft crashed while attempting an emergency in to Orlando Sanford
International Airport, Sanford, Florida after experiencing an in flight fire. The flight had been
released for flight despite it having a known unrepaired maintenance discrepancy. Safety issues
discussed in this paper relate to the resetting of circuit breakers, the inspection and maintenance of
electrical systems in general aviation aircraft, and the establishment of safety management systems
in general aviation corporate aviation operations. Safety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At that time the aircraft was roughly 8 nautical miles northwest of SFB and was turning toward the
airport while rapidly descending. Primary radar returns that were recorded for about another
minute and 30 seconds showed the airplane maintaining a heading of about 150В° towards SFB.
The last of these primary radar returns was recorded about 0834:45; the Board s study estimated
that at that time the aircraft was about three miles northwest of SFB and descending through about
1,200 feet above ground level (AGL). The aircraft subsequently crashed in a residential area about
0.7 nautical miles west of the last primary radar return.
According to several witnesses near the accident site, the airplane was traveling extremely fast,
was very low, and its wings were rocking as it descended. Just before impact, the airplane entered
a steep bank and made a sharp turn to the west. Several witnesses reported seeing smoke trailing
from the airplane, and one witness stated, Smoke was trailing from the port side. (NTSB, 2009)
The main debris path was about 300 feet long and oriented on a western heading of approximately
255 degrees. The aircrafts initial point of impact was a north south line of trees in a right wing low
attitude at a height of about 65 feet AGL. About 270 feet beyond the initial tree strikes, the aircraft
struck a palm tree at a height

Grandmother Got Run Over The Christmas Tree Analysis
It was weeks before Christmas, when all through the house there was a mess that needed to be
upped and oust.
And what to mine eyes did appear, here and there boxes were everywhere.
So, Dad in his office working and I, Mom in the laundry room laundering, did nothing with those
boxes.
We did stop and stare on our way, to and fro. However, those silly boxes just sat there and mocked
us.
Meanwhile, up stairs the windows were bare all but one, which did have a few cling on decorations
hanging there.
Then on the floor for all to see, there were some more decorations of a special kind, they played
music of various kinds.
The reindeer who sings, Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer and Snoopy who plays his
signature song. The tree who sings Rocking Around the Christmas Tree . The jolly snowman who
plays 5 Christmas carols, while he lights up in Christmas colors the shape of bulbs. ... Show more

Santa s hat sat on the rocking chair back, looking quite hardy with its ho, ho, ho and white fur
about the cap.
Patty Penguin who stood just the left of the chair, had her ear muffs and hat on with her whistle
around her neck and that was that.
Then there was the tree, there it was, right there in the box. It sat there looking lonely like it
wanted to be a big tree with lights and tiny hand made decorations. Maybe an angel or a star on top
and to complete the trimmings the tree s skirt right at the bottom.
Sadly, this year would be without, so there in box, stood the tree and that is where it would be.
Alas! Down the hall hanging on the wall, the stockings we all hung with thumb tacks and care. In
hopes, I suppose that Santa would fill them

United States Postal Service In Flying Like An Eagle
For over two centuries, people relied on the United States Postal Service (USPS) as a way to
receive their letter and packages from people around the country. It is their only way where a
person can obtain a parcel when there are no technologies to assist them. Nowadays, in the
modern world, there are different kinds of ways where one can receive a package or a letter,
from an email or other companies. This results in the USPS decreasing its values. In order for
the USPS to keep up with the fast paced society, it should consider changing their ways of
working. Before when automations were nowhere to be seen, people demand USPS to deliver
their mails everyday. Sometimes when there is a large package, it might take weeks for the letters
to reach their destination. So retailers assist delivering the packages in a more efficient way. In

Adam Smith Influence on Economic Theory Essay
Why is the work of Adam Smith considered so crucial in the development of economic thought?
Adam Smith is widely regarded as the father of economics as a social science, and is perhaps
best known for his work The Wealth of Nations. Throughout this work Smith states and informs
towards his belief that society is not at its most productive when ruled over by rules and
limitations with regards to trade, and that in order for markets to maximise prosperity, a free trade
environment should be made accessible. In this essay I intend to asses the way in which many of
Smiths theories taken directly form his works can be applied to past and current situations, first
from an economic then social, and then a political point of view. I will also... Show more content on

The invisible hand would have such an effect if every individual acts in order to maximise their
own prosperity, the prosperity of the community will, in turn, be maximised and become more
efficient. This effect is very well exemplified in modern day terms by using a supermarket queuing
system as an example. Each customer getting in line selfishly chooses to maximize his own interest,
that is to check out in the shortest time, regardless of the other customers. Their utility maximizing
choice is to get in queue in the shortest line; this means that eventually customers queue up in lines
all of the same length. Therefore even without the slightest direction and by following only their
selfishness, the lines are all of the same length, which is clearly the most efficient disposition. This
theory has been crucial in the development of economic thought in that it is a statement which
reflected society in Smiths day, and is still so widely applicable in modern day society. From a
political point of view, Smith wrote that Government intervention should be kept to a minimum
within society. From a mercantilist point of view this was a terrible suggestion, however Smith
argued that government intervention in markets will cause a limitation in productivity, and
therefore not maximise efficiency. However if left alone as discussed in the previous paragraph,
each party will seek to maximise its own prosperity within the given constraints, in turn maximising

Social Network Structures And Its Impact On The Formation...
Organization structure defined by leadership has a considerable impact on the formation of social
networks. From psychological research during the 1940s and 1950s, it became evident that
individuals gather into groups as a result of interaction opportunities, most commonly defined by
places where people meet (Burt, Kilduff, and Tasselli, 2013). While it has been established that
different social networkstructures can prove to be advantageous in differing scenarios, it is often
believed that a greater number of connections in the workplace is beneficial, as meaningful
relationships can lead to a sense of belonging and pride in an organization. Consequently, in many
scenarios, facilitating interaction opportunities can be a common goal of management; providing
employees the opportunity to get to know and learn from one another, whether through
onboarding or continuous employee development, promotes the forming of groups and increase
of density in a social network. As groups form, a new identity may be created, often characterized
by signs of symbolic convergence. These signs might take on the form of inside jokes, symbols,
behaviors, or similar views and begin to define what it means to be in the group. At the same time
as a group forms, an in group and out group frequently begin to develop those who belong to the
group in question and those who do not. The membership discrepancy among in groups and out
groups can turn problematic if taken too far. Although there is some

Tom Bradley Biography
People perceive courage as a result; a title to win, a crown to wear, a place in history to reside.
Legacy, so often overshadowed, is seen as a repercussion; an impossible standard set against
improbable odds, achievable only by those given the chance. Against all likelihood, former Los
Angeles City Councilman Tom Bradley became the first African American mayor to be elected in
a major U.S. city with an overwhelmingly white population (Hendra 2014). Bradley s tenure as
mayor of Los Angeles for twenty years completely modified the seemingly concrete racial
standards of contemporary politics. However, it was in his ascent to glory that his true political
courage flourished. From being scandalized out of his own campaign to having to strategize... Show

His primary strategy seemed solidified and safe; to focus on Yorty s shortcomings as mayor (O
Loughlin and Berg 1977, 227). Almost immediately, Bradley ran into a fatal problem. He could
not win with just the support of the African American community, who knew the accusations from
1969 were false from the beginning, for the community consisted of less than 18 percent (Parker
2001, 153) of Los Angeles total population. In order to win, Bradley had to appeal to a broader
constituency. His new, risky campaign strategy was a bold recovery; to appeal to the
majority...without alienating his black support base (Parker 2001,

Horses are full of energy as I was unloading our pacer from the trailer he leapt and hit with his

and I took a walk through the fair as all the rides were starting up, and kids were running around
having fun with their friends. I was beyond glad that it was a cool rainy day or else we would have
been miserable in the heat. We borrowed a friends truckto go into town. We had discovered that
the right front tire was low on air, so we had went around Troy driving to find somewhere to
pump up the tire. Dad was so aggravated and concentrated on finding somewhere to pump the tire
up he forgot what we really even borrowed the truck for! We went back to the racetrack and it turns

Microsoft Powerpoint
Microsoft PowerPoint
Microsoft PowerPoint, usually just called PowerPoint, is a non free commercial presentation
program developed by Microsoft. It is part of the Microsoft Office suite, and runs on Microsoft
Windows and Apple s Mac OS X operating system. The current versions are Microsoft Office
PowerPoint 2010 for Windows and Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2011 for Mac.
History
Originally designed for the Macintosh computers, the initial release was called Presenter ,
developed by Dennis Austin[not in citation given] and Thomas Rudkin[not in citation given] of
Forethought, Inc.[1] In 1987, it was renamed to PowerPoint due to problems with trademarks, the

There are no compelling results to prove or disprove that PowerPoint is more effective for learner
retention than traditional presentation methods.[9] The effect on audiences of poor PowerPoint
presentations has been described as PowerPoint hell.
[edit]Criticism
Although PowerPoint has the aforementioned benefits, some argue that PowerPoint has negatively
impacted society. The terms Death by PowerPoint and PowerPoint Hell refer to the poor use of the
software. Many large companies and branches of the government use PowerPoint as a way to brief
employees on important issues that they must make decisions about. Opponents of PowerPoint
argue that reducing complex issues to bulleted points is detrimental to the decision making process;
in other words, because the amount of information in a presentation must be condensed, viewing a
PowerPoint presentation does not give one enough detailed information to make a truly informed
decision.
A frequently cited example is Edward Tufte s analysis of PowerPoint slides prepared for briefing
NASA officials concerning possible damage to the Space Shuttle Columbia during its final
launch.[10] Tufte argues that the slides, prepared by the Boeing Corporation, had the effect of
oversimplifying the situation, and provided false assurance that the ultimately fatal damage to the
shuttle was only minimal. Tufte argued:

Essay About My New Years
That New Years was the most rough, fun, exciting and painful New Years I have experienced in my

things. When Megan did get there we got on our snow gear and tied a light green long sledto the

come up after maybe 2 minutes of silence.
When we woke up Megan left around eight in the morning and Jadynn came back and we went
out for more sledding. The worst part was when it was just Leena and I, we were on the side of the
road and there was a mailbox coming up. I did not hear Lorrissa holler back at Leena and I to duck
down, but Leena did. I ended up smashing the back of my head into the mailbox, I was in too much
of a shock to cry. I had known that I hit my head but I didn t really feel the discomfort of the strike.
After that we went inside and Lorrissa retrieved a bag of frozen peas to aid the aching of the back

The Unitarian View Of Religion
The author, James B. Torrance writes concerning the distinction between two views of worship.
One of the views of worship is called the Unitarian view. The Unitarian view is the common
practice of several churches. It is considered a religious concept of human wisdom, worship to God.
These concepts include, going to church, singing psalms and hymns to God, interceding for the
world, listen to a sermon, offering money, time and talents to God. After all, these actions of
worship are simply part of traditions, without the substance JesusChrist s redemption. It is in a
sense going through the motion, without the relevance of the Holy Spirit.
Trinitarian view, on the other hand, is the participation with the Son s communion with the Father.

Longfellow Psalms Of Life Analysis
Three Messages in Longfellow s Psalm of Life
An Analysis of Three Messages in Psalm of Life
There are three main messages in Longfellow s, Psalm of Life . Have you ever really thought
about what Longfellow is trying to reveal through this text. This poem teaches us an abundance of
lessons and gives different perspectives on life situations. He teaches about life and the way we
should live. This poem gives insight to things that you wouldn t normally think of and makes you
think deeply into the purpose of life. There are three primary messages in Longfellow s Psalm of
Life.
In the poem, Psalm of Life by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow shows us that we have to take care of
our bodies but we have to take care of our souls too. He states, For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem. (Psalm of Life 3 4) I believe that to take care of your soul
means to do things that make you happy. Personally, the way I fill my soul is through a lot of
little things. We have to find things that make us happy and do them frequently. Being happy isn
t about being perfect but instead it s about having people and things in our life that make life a little
better. In a lot of situations, we have to do what is best for ourselves and so that is also a way we
take care of our souls is by doing what is best for us. Another way we do this is by making all of
the memories we can in life and enjoying as much of it as we can. In ways, life can be really
hard sometimes but if we find ways to make it through those hard times, our souls will be filled.
Taking care of our bodies is definitely important but not near as important as taking care of your
soul.
Psalm of Life also shows us that we only have so much time do this thing called life so we might
as well take it seriously. Longfellow says, Dust thou art, to dust returnest, Was not spoken of the
soul. (Psalm of Life 7 8) We take a lot of things in life for granted. We never know how much
time we have or what is going to happen the next day. We must live as it were our last day and we
must take risks and care free. The Psalm shows us that even when we return to dust, our soul is still
there. On the other hand, this shows us that we need to appreciate everything

Differences Between SCM-And Control Trials
Our meta analysis revealed that premotor reaction times are indeed faster in SCM+ than in SCM
trials. The estimated magnitude of this effect across the studies may be long enough to entertain the
possibility that motor programs are triggered via a pathway that bypasses some cortical areas of the
brain [1, 23], but not fast enough to completely rule out cortical involvement [11]. Although, the
meta analysis showed that the effect associated with SCM activity is robust across studies, the
heterogeneity test approached significance and depended on the correlation coefficient chosen for
the studies for which data was not available: an increase in the correlation coefficient from 0.5 to
0.56 resulted in a statistically significant... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
[25, 26]). In contrast, although premotor RTs in response to loud acoustic stimuli ( 114 dBa) are
somewhat heterogeneous, differences in premotor RT as a function of foreperiod variability are
clearly mitigated, showing similar average estimates and overlapping confidence intervals for the
subgroups (see Figure 4). Why are responses initiated earlier when SCM activity is detected?
Maslovat et al. [10] proposed that the detection of SCM activity indicates that a more direct neural
circuit, common with the startle reflex, was responsible for involuntarily triggering the prepared
response. Thus, when responses occur without SCM activity (SCM ), the longer typical neural
circuit involving the auditory cortex would trigger the motor response. This model would explain
why responses are faster when SCM activity is observed. Interestingly, the StartReact effect can still
be observed when the startle reflex is abolished due to the presentation of a less intense stimulus
before the go signal (pre pulse inhibition or PPI)[16]. This is counterintuitive because it suggests
that the more direct neural circuit is still activated when the transient activation of the midbrain
nuclei by PPI stimulus exerts long lasting inhibition of the giant neurons of the caudal pontine
reticular nucleus [34]. Alternatively, we have suggested that the apparent correlation between SCM
activity and premotor RT could be a result of variations in the build up of

Importance Of Water Purification
Water purification is the removal of contaminants from raw water to produce drinking water that is
pure enough for human consumption or for industrial use.
Substances that are removed during the process include parasites (such as Giardia or
Cryptosporidium) , bacteria, algae, viruses, fungi, minerals (including toxic metals such as Lead,
Copper etc.), and man made chemical pollutants.
Many contaminants can be dangerous but depending on the quality standards, others are removed
to improve the water s smell, taste, and appearance.
A small amount of disinfectant is usually intentionally left in the water at the end of the treatment
process to reduce the risk of re contamination in the distribution system.
Many environmental and cost considerations affect the location and design of water purification
plants.
Groundwater is cheaper to treat, but aquifers usually have limited output and can take thousands of
years to recharge.
Surface water sources should be carefully monitored for the presence of unusual types or levels of
microbial/disease causing contaminants.
The treatment plant itself must be kept secure from vandalism and terrorism.
It is not possible to tell whether water is safe to drink just by looking at it.
Simple procedures such as boiling or the use of a household charcoal filter are not sufficient for
treating water from an unknown source.
Even natural spring water considered safe for all practical purposes in the 1800s must now be
tested before determining what

was a family of fairies who lived in a beautiful, mushroom home in a magical, faraway place
called Fairyland. There were thousands of beautiful fairies flying all around in this magical land
and each and every fairyhad their very own daily job to do. Many different types of fairies existed
in Fairyland including gardener fairies, teacher fairies, cleaning fairies, musical fairies, and many
more. Fairyland was one of the most beautiful, magical, and happiest places on earth. The land was

The Future Of Australia s Renewable Energy Industry...
The path to renewables in Australia in recent times has been met with a somewhat contentious
debate. In a time where No challenge poses a greater threat to our future than a changing climate.
(Barack Obama, August 3, 2015) the plight of Renewables is of more importance than ever in our
history as a pillar on to which our highly carbon emitting society must rest, if we ever seek to
reduce the impact on our climate both government and individuals must seek out and adhere to
serious carbon abatement strategies. The idea of previous successful government involvement in
the renewable energyindustry through regulation and initiatives may elude the everyday modern
Australian, marred with controversial schemes, which in hind sight were rolled out to fast without
sufficient regulations has seen relatively recent schemes reduced or even thrown out. However, it
is best to remind ourselves that some of Australia s rite of passage as a nation were through
Renewable energyprojects. Examples of this such as the Snowy Hydro Scheme which at the time
was named as one of the civil engineering wonders of the modern world and the White Cliff Solar
Power Station which can be seen as a world first solar energyprovider.
This report will focus on the 2010 12 Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme (REBS) Solar Hot water
rebate and associated regulations and policy, however it is important to realise Government funding
in Solar Thermal technology has not been new to Australia and looking at the

Take for example (Scheidegger, 2001) The new section requires the Attorney General to take into

enforcement officials to contact Immigration and Naturalization to establish history on the

at the law enforcement agencies as the most dynamic component of the organization. The
organization is required to guarantee safety; the USA Patriot Act has amplified the effectiveness
of the criminal justice process by authorizing law enforcement additional tools for the job. The
USA Patriot Act has also increased the abilities of other essential mechanisms in the criminal
justice process by making their processes easier to execute. If we compare the changes we can use
the example of discretion. Discretion allows members in the law enforcement area to act freely to
decide what should be done in any given situation.
Leadership, Management, and Administrative Roles Many roles are involved the leadership,

Single Parent Black Families Analysis
This article discusses a common factor that is encountered when counseling single parent Black
families. That is the topic of a mother s unresolved issue with the absent father being projected on
the eldest son. Lowe stated that in single Black families, mothers unresolved feelings about an
absent father are usually placed on the eldest son who is expected to assume the role as a parental
child.
Lowe found that negative projections could possibly hide many unresolved emotional issues that
the mother has with the father. Therefore, this causes the relationship between the mother and son
to become impaired. This occurs because the son naturally develops and wants to differentiate
himself, which causes him to trigger unfinished business for

Charlie Howard s Descent Essay
The Struggle is Real The main theme of this week was, sensitive situations or loneliness in either
in a state of mind or uncontrollable physical attributes. However, the poem that caught my eye
within this weeks theme was, Charlie Howard s Descent; the situation of the speaker is that he is
alone in his struggle of homosexuality and being tormented because of his simple difference. On
the day Charlie Howard s Descent was read to us, Mr. Legacy was chosen to read this poem, then
afterwards joined our class conversation providing his own personal insight within the topic of
homosexuality and the struggles that came along with it; he brought up points that I couldn t help
but agree with. I would like to revisit, Charlie Howard s Descent. This... Show more content on

In many of the lines the writer describes as a type of disparity or unfortunate event but then he
then highlights it with a type of optimism that seems so passionately heartfelt and forgiving.

good diver has only an edge of fear he transforms into grace . it s all right, that he knows they

dead can afford to forgive . Here in this second quote, I can t help but think that he has committed
a form of suicide, the way the writer says he say its all right and he blesses his killers , to me
shows that he took this as a gift of freedom and release from the social segregation and dismay he
has been faced with most of his life. Which is where the irony comes in, because a sad scene is
played out for the reader but it has a happy ending or tone tagged on to it or an unfortunate
position turns into a beautiful image, And because he s fallen for twenty three years, despite
whatever awkwardness his flailing arms and legs assume he is beautiful and like any good diver

State Your Business, Macedon Essay
The sand seemed to retreat in fear as the men clad in steel armour trod upon it. The crowds parted
as the foreign men climbed the crumbling stone steps that approached the palace, a single strong
soldier clad in thick armour considerably different from the group who had so uninvitedly
approached the palace stepped forward and halted the group from proceeding.
State your business in Macedon! the guard yelled menacingly.
We are simply here to negotiate with King Phillip
The leader of the group stepped forward. The soldier was clad in beautiful ceremonial armour, with

You dare to address me as Phillip, you think yourself to be on my level boy? I refuse your offer
Captain.
Artorius party began to make their way out when Artorius turned back to King Phillip Let us

Artorius then thrust his blade into the carving of King Phillip upon the tall wooden door, Artorius
chuckled and departed the palace.
A Grecian scout dressed in light leather armour raced through the crowd as he pushed his way
towards the palace, the sand kicked up behind his feet and the pebbles in his sandals only
quickened his pace. He had some important news and was intent to reach the palace to inform the
king. The scout continued to run expeditiously through the streets whilst the scalding sun that beat

Jorge Luis Borges
The Art of Being Ambiguous In his collection of short stories, Ficciones, Jorge Luis Borges uses
dreams, imagination and fantasy to establish ambiguity in his stories. With the use of juxtaposition
and symbols, Borges blends a realm of dreams and imagination into the individual s everyday
worldly experiences. Through these devices, Borges commonly blurs the line between aspects of
reality for his characters versus the constructs of his or her mind. By combining the real with the
fictitious, Borges incorporates ambiguity into his stories and introduces his readers to new
perspectives of world around them. In The South, Borges establishes ambiguity by dropping subtle
textual hints that would ultimately allow for the reader to attain... Show more content on

By juxtaposing Hladik s reality and the play he has constructed in his mind, Borges introduces
the overarching idea of how the mind constitutes for a different realm in which the dreamers and
thinkers can shape, share, and confide in. This idea is again prominent when the bullet that is
intended to kill Hladik on the day of his execution stops seconds before taking him. Borges states
that, in Hladik s mind a year would pass between the order of the fire and the discharge of the
rifle (162) as a result of God. If taken at face value, God has intervened as promised in Hladik s
dream. If the reader was to interpret this story in this manner, it is clear that events from Hladik
s dream transform and impact his reality. In which case, Borges clouds the distinction between
Hladik s reality and dreams. However, oddly enough, when Hladik requests the assistance of God
in a dream the night before, the librarian states I myself have gone blind searching for it [God]
(161), indicating that presence of God is questionable at most. If God is not yet found, He could
not have given Hladik the extra year. By incorporating these subtle hints, Borges also allows the
reader to interpret that it was solely Hladik s perception of time, rather than the intervention of God,
that allowed him another

Persuasive Speech About Fish
A child s first pet is a notable milestone of growing up. Some children get to adopt a dog or cat,
others a hamster or guinea pig, but one of the most common starter pets today is, of course, a
fish. Fish are seen as one of the easiest pets to own, and are good for those with little time or who
want little commitment to care. Unlike a time consuming and expensive puppy who will need
toys, a bed, a leash, food, vet care, house training, and more, all you need for a fishis a bowl, some
water, and food.. Right? Wrong.
Many of us have been through it. You go to a pet store and stare at the wall of rectangular tanks,
all packed full of different kinds of fish. You pick out a handful that catch your eye, maybe three or
four goldfish, and a tank that seems big enough for your new friends. After all, they grow to the
size of the tank anyway, right? You grab a small can of the flaky, not at all appetizing fish food,
and maybe some rocks and decorations for your new tank. You get everything home and your fish
acquainted, only to find that 3 weeks later they re all dead. It s a bummer, but not surprising, when
has anyone ever said goldfish have a long life expectancy anyway?
What many people do not know, though, is how wrong all of this is. Goldfish can live for up to
20 years, but they often die prematurely due to being kept in bowls or small tanks. It is
recommended that double tailed goldfish (the type suited for aquariums) still have 20 gallons of
water for each fish. This is

American Education System Of Education
According to the author, most of the foreigners studying in this country find it difficult to
understand the American system of education and the how to cope with American students. To
make foreign students understand and able to cope with the American higher education system, the
author explains some assumption that is behind the educationsystem. He noted that American higher
education system has a connection with both the mechanical feature and the cultural beliefs, but
not intellectual only as it is in many countries. People lacking knowledge of American culture may
find it difficult to cope with the system. Another assumption is that much more attention is given
the practical than the theoretical aspects. Workload is also demanding and required to produce
factual information in all academic papers. In addition, according to Richard Nisbett s, as the
author noted, Americans believe in a system of education which is more abstract, digital, objective,
analytical, rational, detached, and concerned with validity while, people from another culture
believes in a system which is more concrete, analogical, subjective, holistic, global, metaphorical,
empathetic, and concerned with relationships. (Althen. p. 211)
The author further explains that in terms of student s relationship, Americans are independent, and
always do not want to friends with foreign students which is contrary to another culture. On the
base of group work or study, American prefer to use email or

The Death Penalty Debate
The issue of the death penalty is widely disputed. So disputed that maybe I shouldn t have picked
this topic. But nevertheless, the death penalty is an issue that needs to be addressed. Should the
death penalty be abolished from our criminal justice system? Well, that depends on whom you ask.
If you ask me... no. I personally don t see anything wrong with the death penalty because there are a
lot of criminals that are just too dangerous to society and death is the only punishment they deserve.
I know that it is in the eighth amendment that prohibits cruel and unusual punishment, and I can t

Death penalty advocates argue that the execution of convicted murderers deter others from
committing murder for fear that they will also be executed, and also that murderers will be
incapacitated: once dead, they will have no opportunity to commit additional murders. Death
penalty opponents dispute the deterrent effect of capital punishment, arguing that few murderers
rationally weigh the possibility that they might face the death penalty before committing a murder.
Finally, death penalty opponents do not dispute that execution incapacitates executed murders, but
argue that life imprisonment without possibility of parole is equally incapacitating. (Jacob Sullum,

Schizophrenia Is A Disease Process That Is Characterized...
Schizophrenia is a disease process that is characterized by periods of irrational behavior, emotional
changes, and distorted views of reality. According to the National Institute for Health and Care
Excellence, this illness affects about one percent of the population. In the past, the general belief
about schizophreniawas that it was untreatable and that all patients with this disease needed to be
institutionalized. Although that could still be a viable option in isolated cases of extreme
psychosis, most patients nowadays use a combination of individual or group therapy and
pharmacological therapy to reduce and control their symptoms. As a result, these patients are able
to adapt and learn to live with this illness.
Schizophrenia is typically diagnosed during early adulthood or late adolescence. Each
schizophrenic patient will have a unique set of symptoms. Most patients with schizophrenia
gradually develop signs and symptoms over time, although it is also completely plausible for some
patients to have a sudden onset of symptoms. Typically, this illness starts out with a prodromal
period. During this period, people afflicted by this disease experience positive symptoms that may
include disturbances in their thought process, a difficulty differentiating between reality and
fantasy, and a substantial increase in instances of delusions and hallucinations. Negative symptoms
of schizophrenia may include social withdrawal, the inability to pay attention, and general

however in UK class students is less than the China. There are often have 30 students in each class.
It means that in China teacher cannot pay attention to the each student like student s feedback but
in UK teacher can do it.
Now I d like to show you timetable for school day. You can clearly find that the first table is longer
than the second table because in China students have 8 classes in everyday but in UK they only

directed by Rob Reiner and released on November 30, 1990. The movie is about a famous writer,
Paul Sheldon who created the popular Misery series. He finished the first drafts of all his books in
the Silver Creek Lodge in Colorado. He just finished his new novel Fast Cars and is heading back
to New York to get his manuscript printed when his car crashes in Colorado. Paul is pulled out of
the wreckage by a woman named Annie Wilkes, who is his number one fan. She takes him back to
her home and nurses him back to health. Annie s obsession takes a dark turn when she discovers
Paul kills off her favourite character from his Misery novels. As Sheldon makes a plan to try and
escape, Annie grows more controlling and violent as she forces the author to write a new book to

Abnormal Psychology In Stranger Things
Joyce Byers is one of the main leading characters in Stranger things. She is the mother of two
boys Will and Jonathan. They live in a small town called Hawkins, Indiana. To start off the show,
Joyce seems to be a mother who is burning the candle at both ends. She seems as though she is
working all the time and does not have time for her boys. One night, Will s older brother Jonathan
does not make sure he is home because he thought that his mother did. Then of course Will is not
there in the morning when his mother tries to get him up for school and they can not find him.
Joyce goes into a panic like any mother would, and this starts the going downhill in the way that
she acts and does certain things. According to Simply Psychology, Abnormal psychologyis a

Her behavior and the way she goes about things in very uncommon. While to her she does not
see her unusual acts, to the minority of people she seems as though she is crazy, which is why it
is unusual. To most people Joyce is a normal mother with two boy, that is why when she starts to
go crazy we could classify her actions has unusual. Even though I do think that any parent would
act like this if their child was taken and they would not even worry if they were being unusual or
not. Joyce starts to think that she can talk to and hear Will though the lights in her house. She goes
absolutely crazy trying setting up every light and christmas light. She even goes to the local
department store and tries to buy more christmas lights with no money. She is so distraught though
that she doesn t even care about paying she grabs them and tells them to put her on her bill and
she leaves. She then sets up the lights all over her house and tries to connect with her son. No one
in the whole town wants to believe her and so this would cause me to think that she is displaying

  • 2. Great Expectations Vs Great Expectations It is not challenging for the story of Great Expectations to survive as it had been presented in Charles Dickens book and faithful film adaptations. In the 1800s, Britain was undoubtedly the most powerful and great nation in the world. In this society of wealth and power, a gentleman was one that possessed wealth and power but also of great importance was that those attributes came from a respectable source. Charles Dickenswrote this novel to warn Britain against the arrogance, wealth and power its people had in those days, and favoured a gentleman of great humility and respect for others. The Victorian idea of a gentleman during these times is based on birth, apparel, social status and wealth. On the other hand, Dickens portrays a gentleman as someone of generosity, humility, and kindness. The early life and the upbringing of Dickens allowed him to understand the perspective of those of low social standing and the effect of their poor upbringing keeping them in the lower social class. Dickens Great Expectations portrays a very class mobile society in which fortunes can be made and lost equally suddenly, while by contrast Dickens portrayed the extraordinarily varied ways in small differences of dress, accent, and action by which people present themselves and act out their class identities and aspirations. Someone who came from a respectable and wealthy family in Victorians times was described to be a gentleman. This is evident in various characters in the book who are ... A discussion will then be carried out incorporating two of the moral issues associated with these activities. Firstly, to what extent the laws relating to illicit drug use should promote good moral behaviour and discourage immoral or harmful behaviour. Secondly, whether an individual should have the liberty of choice to partake in drugrelated activities. The Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 (MoDA) governs the sale and possession of illicit drugs in the United Kingdom. This legislation was implemented following the signing of the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs 1961. The convention was established by the United Nations (UN) with the intention to restrict the number of drug related offences. The MoDA 1971 classifies the offences on possession and supply of drugs. The classification system places ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Consequently, could placing legal restrictions on the choice of engaging in such activities be seen as an infringement of this liberty. Furthermore, to what extent should the law control an individual s personal choice? These questions raise a similar response to what was established in the Hart Devlin debate, which is, a principle of the law is to prevent harm arising to others. For that reason, it could be argued that provided an individual s actions do not evoke harm on others, their choices should remain without legal interference. However, the law principally endeavours to protect individuals from harming others. The law can therefore justify limiting liberty of choice and individual freedom, provided their actions would result in evoking harm to others. Cited OU (2016a 2). Primary radar returns that were recorded for about another minute and 30 seconds showed the airplane maintaining a heading of about 150В° towards SFB. The last of these primary radar returns was recorded about 0834:45; the Board s study estimated that at that time the aircraft was about three miles northwest of SFB and descending through about 1,200 feet above ground level (AGL). The aircraft subsequently crashed in a residential area about 0.7 nautical miles west of the last primary radar return. According to several witnesses near the accident site, the airplane was traveling extremely fast, was very low, and its wings were rocking as it descended. Just before impact, the airplane entered a steep bank and made a sharp turn to the west. Several witnesses reported seeing smoke trailing from the airplane, and one witness stated, Smoke was trailing from the port side. (NTSB, 2009) The main debris path was about 300 feet long and oriented on a western heading of approximately 255 degrees. The aircrafts initial point of impact was a north south line of trees in a right wing low attitude at a height of about 65 feet AGL. And what to mine eyes did appear, here and there boxes were everywhere. So, Dad in his office working and I, Mom in the laundry room laundering, did nothing with those boxes. We did stop and stare on our way, to and fro. However, those silly boxes just sat there and mocked us. Meanwhile, up stairs the windows were bare all but one, which did have a few cling on decorations hanging there. United States Postal Service In Flying Like An Eagle For over two centuries, people relied on the United States Postal Service (USPS) as a way to receive their letter and packages from people around the country. It is their only way where a person can obtain a parcel when there are no technologies to assist them. Nowadays, in the modern world, there are different kinds of ways where one can receive a package or a letter, from an email or other companies. This results in the USPS decreasing its values. In order for the USPS to keep up with the fast paced society, it should consider changing their ways of working. Before when automations were nowhere to be seen, people demand USPS to deliver their mails everyday. • 8. Adam Smith Influence on Economic Theory Essay Why is the work of Adam Smith considered so crucial in the development of economic thought? Adam Smith is widely regarded as the father of economics as a social science, and is perhaps best known for his work The Wealth of Nations. Throughout this work Smith states and informs towards his belief that society is not at its most productive when ruled over by rules and limitations with regards to trade, and that in order for markets to maximise prosperity, a free trade environment should be made accessible. In this essay I intend to asses the way in which many of Smiths theories taken directly form his works can be applied to past and current situations, first from an economic then social, and then a political point of view. I will also... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The invisible hand would have such an effect if every individual acts in order to maximise their own prosperity, the prosperity of the community will, in turn, be maximised and become more efficient. This effect is very well exemplified in modern day terms by using a supermarket queuing system as an example. Each customer getting in line selfishly chooses to maximize his own interest, that is to check out in the shortest time, regardless of the other customers. Their utility maximizing choice is to get in queue in the shortest line; this means that eventually customers queue up in lines all of the same length. Therefore even without the slightest direction and by following only their selfishness, the lines are all of the same length, which is clearly the most efficient disposition. This theory has been crucial in the development of economic thought in that it is a statement which reflected society in Smiths day, and is still so widely applicable in modern day society. From a political point of view, Smith wrote that Government intervention should be kept to a minimum within society. From a mercantilist point of view this was a terrible suggestion, however Smith argued that government intervention in markets will cause a limitation in productivity, and therefore not maximise efficiency. However if left alone as discussed in the previous paragraph, each party will seek to maximise its own prosperity within the given constraints, in turn maximising the ... • 9. Social Network Structures And Its Impact On The Formation... Organization structure defined by leadership has a considerable impact on the formation of social networks. From psychological research during the 1940s and 1950s, it became evident that individuals gather into groups as a result of interaction opportunities, most commonly defined by places where people meet (Burt, Kilduff, and Tasselli, 2013). While it has been established that different social networkstructures can prove to be advantageous in differing scenarios, it is often believed that a greater number of connections in the workplace is beneficial, as meaningful relationships can lead to a sense of belonging and pride in an organization. Consequently, in many scenarios, facilitating interaction opportunities can be a common goal of management; providing employees the opportunity to get to know and learn from one another, whether through onboarding or continuous employee development, promotes the forming of groups and increase of density in a social network. As groups form, a new identity may be created, often characterized by signs of symbolic convergence. These signs might take on the form of inside jokes, symbols, behaviors, or similar views and begin to define what it means to be in the group. At the same time as a group forms, an in group and out group frequently begin to develop those who belong to the group in question and those who do not. The membership discrepancy among in groups and out groups can turn problematic if taken too far. Although there is some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Opponents of PowerPoint argue that reducing complex issues to bulleted points is detrimental to the decision making process; in other words, because the amount of information in a presentation must be condensed, viewing a PowerPoint presentation does not give one enough detailed information to make a truly informed decision. A frequently cited example is Edward Tufte s analysis of PowerPoint slides prepared for briefing NASA officials concerning possible damage to the Space Shuttle Columbia during its final launch.[10] Tufte argues that the slides, prepared by the Boeing Corporation, had the effect of oversimplifying the situation, and provided false assurance that the ultimately fatal damage to the shuttle was only minimal. • 19. Longfellow Psalms Of Life Analysis Three Messages in Longfellow s Psalm of Life An Analysis of Three Messages in Psalm of Life There are three main messages in Longfellow s, Psalm of Life . Have you ever really thought about what Longfellow is trying to reveal through this text. This poem teaches us an abundance of lessons and gives different perspectives on life situations. He teaches about life and the way we should live. This poem gives insight to things that you wouldn t normally think of and makes you think deeply into the purpose of life. There are three primary messages in Longfellow s Psalm of Life. In the poem, Psalm of Life by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow shows us that we have to take care of our bodies but we have to take care of our souls too. He states, For the soul is dead that slumbers, And things are not what they seem. (Psalm of Life 3 4) I believe that to take care of your soul means to do things that make you happy. Personally, the way I fill my soul is through a lot of little things. We have to find things that make us happy and do them frequently. Being happy isn t about being perfect but instead it s about having people and things in our life that make life a little better. In a lot of situations, we have to do what is best for ourselves and so that is also a way we take care of our souls is by doing what is best for us. Another way we do this is by making all of the memories we can in life and enjoying as much of it as we can. In ways, life can be really hard sometimes but if we find ways to make it through those hard times, our souls will be filled. Taking care of our bodies is definitely important but not near as important as taking care of your soul. Psalm of Life also shows us that we only have so much time do this thing called life so we might as well take it seriously. Longfellow says, Dust thou art, to dust returnest, Was not spoken of the soul. (Psalm of Life 7 8) We take a lot of things in life for granted. We never know how much time we have or what is going to happen the next day. We must live as it were our last day and we must take risks and care free. The Psalm shows us that even when we return to dust, our soul is still there. On the other hand, this shows us that we need to appreciate everything ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The estimated magnitude of this effect across the studies may be long enough to entertain the possibility that motor programs are triggered via a pathway that bypasses some cortical areas of the brain [1, 23], but not fast enough to completely rule out cortical involvement [11]. Although, the meta analysis showed that the effect associated with SCM activity is robust across studies, the heterogeneity test approached significance and depended on the correlation coefficient chosen for the studies for which data was not available: an increase in the correlation coefficient from 0.5 to 0.56 resulted in a statistically significant... In contrast, although premotor RTs in response to loud acoustic stimuli ( 114 dBa) are somewhat heterogeneous, differences in premotor RT as a function of foreperiod variability are clearly mitigated, showing similar average estimates and overlapping confidence intervals for the subgroups (see Figure 4). Why are responses initiated earlier when SCM activity is detected? Maslovat et al. [10] proposed that the detection of SCM activity indicates that a more direct neural circuit, common with the startle reflex, was responsible for involuntarily triggering the prepared response. Thus, when responses occur without SCM activity (SCM ), the longer typical neural circuit involving the auditory cortex would trigger the motor response. This model would explain why responses are faster when SCM activity is observed. Interestingly, the StartReact effect can still be observed when the startle reflex is abolished due to the presentation of a less intense stimulus before the go signal (pre pulse inhibition or PPI)[16]. This is counterintuitive because it suggests that the more direct neural circuit is still activated when the transient activation of the midbrain nuclei by PPI stimulus exerts long lasting inhibition of the giant neurons of the caudal pontine reticular nucleus [34]. Alternatively, we have suggested that the apparent correlation between SCM activity and premotor RT could be a result of variations in the build up of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Importance Of Water Purification Water purification is the removal of contaminants from raw water to produce drinking water that is pure enough for human consumption or for industrial use. Substances that are removed during the process include parasites (such as Giardia or Cryptosporidium) , bacteria, algae, viruses, fungi, minerals (including toxic metals such as Lead, Copper etc.), and man made chemical pollutants. Many contaminants can be dangerous but depending on the quality standards, others are removed to improve the water s smell, taste, and appearance. A small amount of disinfectant is usually intentionally left in the water at the end of the treatment process to reduce the risk of re contamination in the distribution system. Many environmental and cost considerations affect the location and design of water purification plants. Groundwater is cheaper to treat, but aquifers usually have limited output and can take thousands of years to recharge. Surface water sources should be carefully monitored for the presence of unusual types or levels of microbial/disease causing contaminants. The treatment plant itself must be kept secure from vandalism and terrorism. It is not possible to tell whether water is safe to drink just by looking at it. Simple procedures such as boiling or the use of a household charcoal filter are not sufficient for treating water from an unknown source. Even natural spring water considered safe for all practical purposes in the 1800s must now be tested before determining what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 28. Jorge Luis Borges The Art of Being Ambiguous In his collection of short stories, Ficciones, Jorge Luis Borges uses dreams, imagination and fantasy to establish ambiguity in his stories. With the use of juxtaposition and symbols, Borges blends a realm of dreams and imagination into the individual s everyday worldly experiences. Through these devices, Borges commonly blurs the line between aspects of reality for his characters versus the constructs of his or her mind. By combining the real with the fictitious, Borges incorporates ambiguity into his stories and introduces his readers to new perspectives of world around them. In The South, Borges establishes ambiguity by dropping subtle textual hints that would ultimately allow for the reader to attain... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By juxtaposing Hladik s reality and the play he has constructed in his mind, Borges introduces the overarching idea of how the mind constitutes for a different realm in which the dreamers and thinkers can shape, share, and confide in. This idea is again prominent when the bullet that is intended to kill Hladik on the day of his execution stops seconds before taking him. Borges states that, in Hladik s mind a year would pass between the order of the fire and the discharge of the rifle (162) as a result of God. If taken at face value, God has intervened as promised in Hladik s dream. If the reader was to interpret this story in this manner, it is clear that events from Hladik s dream transform and impact his reality. In which case, Borges clouds the distinction between Hladik s reality and dreams. However, oddly enough, when Hladik requests the assistance of God in a dream the night before, the librarian states I myself have gone blind searching for it [God] (161), indicating that presence of God is questionable at most. If God is not yet found, He could not have given Hladik the extra year. By incorporating these subtle hints, Borges also allows the reader to interpret that it was solely Hladik s perception of time, rather than the intervention of God, that allowed him another ... • 31. Persuasive Speech About Fish A child s first pet is a notable milestone of growing up. Some children get to adopt a dog or cat, others a hamster or guinea pig, but one of the most common starter pets today is, of course, a fish. Fish are seen as one of the easiest pets to own, and are good for those with little time or who want little commitment to care. Unlike a time consuming and expensive puppy who will need toys, a bed, a leash, food, vet care, house training, and more, all you need for a fishis a bowl, some water, and food.. Right? Wrong. Many of us have been through it. You go to a pet store and stare at the wall of rectangular tanks, all packed full of different kinds of fish. You pick out a handful that catch your eye, maybe three or four goldfish, and a tank that seems big enough for your new friends. After all, they grow to the size of the tank anyway, right? You grab a small can of the flaky, not at all appetizing fish food, and maybe some rocks and decorations for your new tank. You get everything home and your fish acquainted, only to find that 3 weeks later they re all dead. It s a bummer, but not surprising, when has anyone ever said goldfish have a long life expectancy anyway? What many people do not know, though, is how wrong all of this is. Goldfish can live for up to 20 years, but they often die prematurely due to being kept in bowls or small tanks. It is recommended that double tailed goldfish (the type suited for aquariums) still have 20 gallons of water for each fish. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He noted that American higher education system has a connection with both the mechanical feature and the cultural beliefs, but not intellectual only as it is in many countries. People lacking knowledge of American culture may find it difficult to cope with the system. Another assumption is that much more attention is given the practical than the theoretical aspects. In addition, according to Richard Nisbett s, as the author noted, Americans believe in a system of education which is more abstract, digital, objective, analytical, rational, detached, and concerned with validity while, people from another culture believes in a system which is more concrete, analogical, subjective, holistic, global, metaphorical, empathetic, and concerned with relationships. Schizophrenia is a disease process that is characterized by periods of irrational behavior, emotional changes, and distorted views of reality. According to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, this illness affects about one percent of the population. In the past, the general belief about schizophreniawas that it was untreatable and that all patients with this disease needed to be institutionalized. Although that could still be a viable option in isolated cases of extreme psychosis, most patients nowadays use a combination of individual or group therapy and pharmacological therapy to reduce and control their symptoms. As a result, these patients are able to adapt and learn to live with this illness. Schizophrenia is typically diagnosed during early adulthood or late adolescence. Each schizophrenic patient will have a unique set of symptoms. Most patients with schizophrenia gradually develop signs and symptoms over time, although it is also completely plausible for some patients to have a sudden onset of symptoms. Typically, this illness starts out with a prodromal period.
