Difference Between A Growth Mindset
The difference between a growth mindset is that they see it as a chance to grow and develop their
intelligence even if they didn t succeed at first that person will try even if they have failed at first and a
fixed mindset is that person believes their smart or not at something and don t really need to put a lot
of effort in it or practice more if they re good at it. My mindset about my intelligence and abilities

The Republican Platform
The Republican platform discusses several elements that are in contrast with the TDP. The subject of
school choice is described as the ability to allow parents to choose their children s school. The use of
educational funds would be given to use in public, private, charter, or for home schooling. The school
choice is proposed to by funded by tax credits and or exemptions.
One founding principle that is listed in the platform is that separation of the public facilities at schools
be only used for biological genders, this falls in line with the Judeo Christian Principles that are
continually mentioned within the platform. An intense sense of faith and government is seen
throughout the Republican Party platform document. In addition, there is ... Show more content on

Negative Effects Of Plastic Surgery
With social media being extremely rampant and influential in today s society, comes the immense
pressures of being physically attractive. There are many physically attractive people who are seen as
social media influencers that convince many young people to use certain products that they use in
order to attain that aspect of beauty. Although they may not admit it, many of these people who are
public influencers have undergone cosmetic plastic surgery in order to look a certain way. There are
many people who feel that they are not attractive enough or feel the need to change themselves in
order to conform to the current beauty standards, so they go under the knife to fulfill this ideal.
Although undergoing cosmetic plastic surgery can make certain attributes of the body and face
aesthetically pleasing to the eye, there is a long recovery time as well as many risks to having this
procedure done.
Under normal circumstances, the first thing that many people will think of when they hear of plastic
surgery is that these operations are carried out purely for cosmetic and aesthetic purposes. However,
that is not necessarily always the case as there are many people who get trauma plastic surgery
procedures done in much more compromising situations. These procedures may include the
reconstruction of body parts, burn repairs, scar revision, and the correction of deformities from birth
or that have been caused later in life by accidents. Although these procedures seem to have the

Bitter Melon Character Analysis
Bitter Melon by Cara Chow revolves around Frances, the protagonist, who is constantly shamed and
abused by her mother. Frances character traits at the beginning of the novel can be symbolized through
several objects. A broken mirror represents Frances as self loathing because if a person looks into one,
their reflection is broken. In the story Frances can t help but to think about how flawed her knowledge
and physical appearance is when her mother is around, constantly criticizing her. A teacup is
something valuable that easily tips over and breaks, Frances moves into a direction her mother forces
her to even though she doesn t want to. For example, when Frances is placed on a devastating diet, it s
because her mother has shoved her that way and her refusal to oppose it. Her mother has also adapted
the habit of neglecting the things she does, leaving Frances to feel unappreciated like a button. A
button comes in very handy, however it s acknowledgment is inexistent until it falls out. ... Show more

A band aid serves to preserve a wound, however, Frances excuses can not heal her pain. Throughout
the story, Frances is manipulated by her mother to do as she pleases. An object that can symbolize this

and care for her. She s not free to her own

The Process Of Evolution And Evolution

The Process of Evolution
Evolution is the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed
and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth, Google. Google. Google, n.d. Web.
11 Apr. 2015. Evolution is the reason there is change in the genetic makeup of a population, the reason
organisms are linked by common ancestors, and evolution is still happening today because of the
constant change in environment. This paper focuses on these subjects within evolution and will
explore all areas of the process of evolution that creates diversity and unity in life.
One key component of evolution is natural selection. Natural selection is a theory, first presented by
Charles Darwin, that is well known across the globe. It is the reason why there is change of genetic
makeup in evolution. Natural selection is caused by the variation between generations, as well as the
survival of different individuals with different combinations of traits. The theory poses that organisms
with characteristics that increase their probability of survival will be given the chance to produce more
offspring. This means that the organism is more fit . These offsprings are then given the benefiting
characteristic. With time more variation throughout the species will develop. For an example of why
evolution is dependent on natural selection Berkeley College talks about a population of beetles.

A Patchwork Quilt Of The Scarlet Letter
A Patchwork Quilt of The Scarlet Letter Scenes create a patchwork method to a story made quilt.
There is a need for each element of this so called quilt, but some patches (scenes) contain more
importance and understanding than other patches. The levels of an author s writing are how scenes
impact a person. In the retrospect of the daring and defying boundaries of this novel, entitled The
Scarlet Letter , there is a certain pull in areas of the novel that grasp the feeling and most important
areas to be covered. As the hearts of all readers searched this novel, five scenes pulled on the strings of
those encountered this novel. Scenes of this nature include, the point that Hester pronounced her
appearance on the scaffold with a mighty reveal of the nature of this story, Governor Bellingham
became a threatening factor in Hester and her daughter s life, a tremendous moment occurred for the
Reverend Dimmesdale and it affects the relationship with Hester and young Pearl, a moment of sweet
and uncountable passion between two forbidden lovers, and the end of tail of passion, sorrow, and
estrangement between brooding protagonists and antagonists. A moment of true form and conception
is what Hester faces the defining beginning of her adulterous life. As the novel opens up, our minds
are faced with the bold Hester Prynne, who is eloquently swaying in her dress of coarse materials to
the scaffold of committed punishment. This beautiful woman of impurity must take a punishment

Disillusionment In Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell To Arms
Many of the most deeply emotional, profound ruminations on human nature are found in novels
published after a major war. The authors of these novels were once soldiers, living in fear and
enduring sleepless nights. These authors channel their experiences and emotions into their work, often
creating masterpieces of literature. A Farewell to Arms is one such novel. Ernest Hemingway was in
the Italian ambulance corps in World War I, much like the protagonist of A Farewell to Arms, Frederic
Henry. The themes in A Farewell to Arms reflect his mentality and the typical soldier s disillusionment
in the institutions and values he had always held close. A Farewell to Arms explores the far reaching
disillusionment that seems to plague Frederic like a disease. The theme of Frederic Henry s
disillusionment of all that he believes in is found through his desertion of the war, the deterioration of
his relationship with Catherine, and his thoughts on life. While Frederic is never passionate about the
war, he does experience a change from casually indifferent to fervently avoiding the war. In the
beginning of the novel, it is clear that although Frederic is participating in the war, he does not seem to
seek anything more, such as promotion or glory. Frederic s involvement in the war is fairly
happenstance; when pressed about why he joined the Italian ambulance corps, he responds, There isn t
always an explanation for everything (Hemingway). Frederic seems to simply be floating through

they could change her view by using Dr. Lovell to get rid of her fear. They showed her that all men

Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill Analysis
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill the story of a Lioness
During the dawn of the new century, a young black woman taps on her microphone, surrounded by
everything from the romantic twang of a harp to the rustic beat of the timpani drum. Her hair twisted
in locks, envelopes her face the studio lights streaming on her face make her look like a lion,
courageous and proud of herself, her ideals and her vision. This isn t even the beginning. Lauryn Hill s
story starts in a township named after the Prince of Orange, in New Jersey where she grew up
listening to Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, and Gladys Knight. As a freshman in
high school Hill (now going by L. Boogie) started Tranzlator Crew with Pras Michel. Later, Wyclef
Jean replaced one of their original female singers and they renamed their band to the Fugees (inspired
by the word refugee an offensive term for Haitian Americans) and focused mostly on genre bending in
reggae, rock and soul.
During the early Fugees days Jean and Hill started dating. However, there was always a healthy

The End Of Remembering And Susan Griffin s Our Secret
Memory what it is, how it works, and how it might be manipulated has long been a subject of curious
fascination. Remembering, the mind boggling ability in which the human brain can conjure up very
specific, very lucid, long gone episodes from any given point on the timeline of our lives, is an
astounding feat. Yet, along with our brain s ability of remembrance comes also the concept of
forgetting: interruptions of memory or an inability of consciousness to make present to itself what it
wants (Honold, 1994, p. 2). There is a very close relationship between remembering and forgetting; in
fact, the two come hand in hand. A close reading of Joshua Foer s essay, The End of Remembering ,
and Susan Griffin s piece, Our Secret , directs us ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Susan Griffin, a feminist writer and finalist for the Pulitzer Price in non fiction, explores the concept
of forgetting in her chapter Our Secret . Unlike Foer, Griffin (1992) doesn t seem to be too much a fan
of remembering, describing memory to be like a long, half lit tunnel, a tunnel where one is likely to
encounter phantoms of a self, long concealed, no longer nourished with the force of consciousness,
existing in a tortured state between life and death (p. 258). In fact, Griffin might argue that there are
several benefits to forgetting, and that the collective memories of a traumatic past should not be
remembered or preserved. Failure to retrieve memories may not always be a bad thing, in fact,
unwanted memories of childhood trauma, emotional rejection, or any of life s inevitable
disappointments have the ability to torment and mentally exhaust a person. Throughout her essay,
Griffin explores the hidden shame and pains that several characters carry, herself included, and the
consequences they bring. She writes of one woman s memories of the cold war, who, as a young child,
witnessed shoes in great piles. Bones. Women s hair, clothes, stains, a terrible odor , all of which left
her sobbing and screaming in fear (Griffin, 1992, p. 233). Another gruesome account Griffin (1992)
writes of, is as

When we got back to the hotel, I looked for my bed and it looked like I was sleeping on the pull out

from many scientific organizations and governmental organizations. Proponents believe that it is more
important to try to feed the world, and solve world hunger than it is to worry about labeling
genetically engineered foods. Since their argument is about how genetically engineered foods should
not have a labeling requirement due to the fact these foods are no different it would essentially cause
more confusion to the public. Some studies conducted by the companies producing the biotech crops
like Monsanto, did not show any negative effects on mice

Analysis Of John Donne s Holy Sonnet Xiv
In Holy Sonnet XIV, John Donne directly addresses God using a desperate and forceful tone. The
formal structure of Donne s holy sonnet follows the basic Petrarchan sonnet form. The sonnet has
fourteen lines divided into an octave and a sestet. The rhyme scheme of the octave is abba abba. The
sestet has the rhyme scheme cdcdee. Donne expresses his spiritual turmoil and longing by using this
structure to present different metaphors that illustrate his condition, and he uses Petrarchan
conventions to further highlight his spiritual desires. The octave introduces and illustrates the spiritual
difficulty that Donne finds himself in trapped in, and wants God to take him out of. The first line starts
with Donne s desperate and urgent command to God to batter or violently beat his heart (1). Donne
uses the metaphor of his heart as a metal object, and God as a metal smith to support this command.
Donne s heart is a broken object that the metal smith has gently stroked, breathed on to shine, and
polished, in order to fix the broken parts. However, Donne claims that this is not enough. The metal
smith needs to break, blow, burn in order to make the object new (4). The metal smith must apply
more force to shatter the object, and then place it into the fire to melt, so the metal can be purified and
new. Donne seems to be telling God that his heart is too broken by sin to be mended through God s
normal ways of opening the heart to faith again. God needs to bend

Personality and Sexual Orientation Essay
Hypothesis: Sexual orientation has an effect on one s personality, even at birth. My Initial Hypothesis
I believe that sexual orientation is not something that is learned. I believe that from the time we are
born, we have imbedded in our minds our sexual preferences. I do not believe that a gay man is gay
because of the choices that he has made in his life. I believe that he was born gay, but the choices and
his environment have only reinforced it. Attachment is something that affects children when they are
first born. When they are born they are attracted, so to speak, to their parents. They see them every
day, and their parents give them what they want and when they want it (Bernstein, 2011, p.22). Most

Jamil, Harper, and Fernandez (2009) conducted a study on gay, lesbian, and bisexual minority teens
with the purpose of correlating the relationship between sexual development and ethnic identity.
Sexual identity awareness was triggered internally, by youth recognizing their sexual or romantic
attraction to members of the same sex, (Jamil, Harper, Fernandez, 2009). Golombok and Tasker
(1996) researched the effect lesbian mothers have on their children s sexuality. They took several
lesbian mothers and compared their rearing techniques to those of heterosexual mothers. Several years
later they conducted a follow up study and the results were not so conclusive. Although there were
slightly more children that turned out homosexual under the care of the lesbian mothers, there was no
direct correlation with the heterosexual mothers. Furthermore, there was absolutely no correlation
with boys being homosexual and having a homosexual mother. In Golombok and Taskers study they
state that an attraction is actually being in a relationship. Even so, the teens from the lesbian
background said that they could see themselves or think about being in a homosexual relationship.
Blaise (2010) noted that children know more about sex and sexuality than they let on. She believes
that children should not be directly taught about sexual desires and sexuality; rather,

Using GPS to Track a Particular Person Essay
Using GPS to Track a Particular Person

Often times its hard to imagine how the world survived without cell phones. Its an automatic response,
when you see a car accident you take out your cell phone and dial for help, or when a child is waiting
for a ride they will call their parents to see how far away they are. It is a great convenience for society
to be able to do such things. Imagine if you didn t even have to call somebody to find out where they
were. It may seem like a futuristic idea, humanity being capable of such mind reading; however, the

How GPS Works
GPS works off of twenty four satellites located 11,000 nautical miles above Earth s surface. These
satellites track receivers, which are on Earth. Receivers can be GPS in a car, a chip located in a cell
phone, military tracking devises, police radios, or even something as every day as a watch. The
distance between the satellite and receiver is measured using the exact distance from six different
satellites that locates a particular receiver on a particular path at the intersection of the two satellites.
The exact distance and time that it takes to measure the distance is tracked and formulated to produce
the exact longitudinal and latitudianl axis of the person being located. As complicated as the
mathematical procedures sounds, the radio signals are transmitted instantaneously and the close
approximate location of a subject is known at once.9
Background
The first GPS satellite was created and launched in 1978, it was referred to as Block I (fig.2) 8. The
rest of initial 10 Block I satellites were launched through 1988.. From 1989 to 1993, 23 production

uncertainty concerning the occurrence of a loss.
(b) Objective risk is the relative variation of actual loss from expected loss. As the number of exposure

mental condition or state of mind. Accordingly, objective risk is measurable and statistical; subjective
risk is personal and not easily measured.

Types Of Business Entity For A Business
Of all the choices you make when starting a business, one of the most important is the type of business
entity you select for your company. Not only will this decision have an impact on how much you pay
in taxes, it will affect the amount of paperwork your business is required to do, the personal liability
you face and your ability to raise money. It s not a decision to be entered into lightly, either, or one
that should be made without sound counsel from business experts. Kalish says it s important for
business owners to seek expert advice from business professionals when considering the pros and cons
of various business entities . The business entity I have chosen for my business is sole proprietorship. I
don t want to be responsible if someone else makes a bad chose for the company. I want to run my
business my way. If anything goes wrong it is completely my fault not anyone else s. Types of
Business Entities The type of business entity you choose will depend on three primary factors:
liability, taxation and record keeping. Here s a quick look at the differences between the most common
forms of business entities: A sole proprietorship is the most common form of business organization. It
s easy to form and offers complete managerial control to the owner. However, the owner is also

Dystopian Society Is An Illusion Of A Perfect Society
A dystopian society is an illusion of a perfect society. Think of a world where having fun isn t
allowed. Nothing that has been created is fun no sports, no computer games, no music and everything
in life has a purpose. You are forced to work for the rest of your life a job that the government chose.
The government chooses who you are going to marry, where you are going to live and how much you
are going to make. However, one person is assigned a job that he enjoyed and is fun. It is so fun that
he become the best in the field. He then goes on to become the boss of everybody in that field and
starts to boss around the people at the firm. If somebody says something that he does not agree with
they get fired. The keys aspect of a dystopian society can either be a control of information, a
singularity in power or ruling in fear and the purpose of these stories to the reader is what would
happen if we let it run its course?
There are many ways to control information in a society. Controlling information is when somebody
twisted the information around or lie to gain more control over the individual. In the Planet of the
Apes, an older ape that was in power read from a sacred scroll which is a religious book in their
society. Cornelius: [reading from the sacred scrolls of the apes] Beware the beast Man, for he is the

Violent Video Games Influence Violent Behavior in Children
Many people still do not believe that violent video games could influence violent behavior in children.
They think that video games are just for entertainment and nothing more than that. Even though there
are several cases where video games have been blamed or held responsible for violent actions, some
people fail to consider the fact that violent video games do influence violent actions.

I think in the act of playing violent video games, the actions that are executed by the character in the
game are decided by the player himself. Depending on how much time the player spend on the game
and how much urge the player develops to carry out extreme violence in the game, the player will
automatically begin to harbor aggressive thoughts. In this case, if a player had any sort of previous
knowledge playing violent video games, he/she will respond with a higher level of aggression
whenever he/she encounters confrontation.
When video games were introduced about 30 years ago, the characters in the games were all in black

perform real life reactions to an effect. For example, when a character is shot in the neck, he falls to
the ground face down clutching to his throat. Sometimes when the character is shot, a large spray of
blood covers the walls and the floor where the body of character lies. In other instances where
explosives are used, the character burst into small but recognizable body parts (Shin).

Essay On Hawaii Volcanoes
Hawaii: Geology s Volcanic Wonder of the World It is well know that Hawaii is very volcanically
active and is home to the world s most active volcanoes. Hawaii is unique because the islands are
caused by a hot spot in the middle of the Pacific Plate, one of the largest crustal plates on earth. There
are only a few hot spots on earth and they occur in an area where the plate is thin and weak creating
volcanism, where molten magma ruptures the earth s crust. For Hawaii, the hot spot is under the sea

Doubt And Uncertainty In Macbeth
In this essay, I will be comparing the running theme of doubt and uncertainty between Macbeth and
other poems which we have studied. There are three main characters that I will be focusing on. Firstly,
Macbeth is the protagonist in the play Macbeth written by Shakespeare. Macbeth was originally a
soldier in the beginning battle when the Norwegians attempt to invade Scotland, which shows him as
patriotic and loyal to his country and king. He was also the Thane of Glamis, of Scotland, meaning
that he was trusted to look after land. He is married to his wife, Lady Macbeth, who also plays a large
role in the play.
Secondly, Ulysses is the character which the poem Ulysses written by Tennyson was based on, as it is

As it is a long monologue, based on Ulysses decision to leave his responsibilities in Ithaca, it includes
many doubts and uncertainties. Since he has to deal with his desire to travel, the main doubt shown is
whether to stay at home with his kingdom and family, or shall he leave again. Continuing on from this,
Ulysses may doubt whether returning home after his first journey was the right thing for him to do.
This can be shown as he devotes the beginning 26 lines to detailing his dissatisfaction and discontent
of spending his last years doing nothing. A quote to support this is I cannot rest from travel line 6
which implies his boredom and that he wants to get the most out of life; meaning travelling. Ulysses is
also uncertain about his relationship with his son, Telemachus. Even though he respects him and
wishes him to be king; to whom I leave the sceptre and the isle , Ulysses doesn t believe that he has a
bond with his son. Perhaps this is because of the first 20 years of his son s life he has missed, due to
the Trojan War; or it could just be that Ulysses has spent the majority of his time moping, rather than
spending time with him. This can be shown in the quote He works his, I mine which immediately

  • 10. The Process Of Evolution And Evolution Sachs 1 Ella Sachs Mrs.Jarvis AP Biology April 6th, 2015 The Process of Evolution Evolution is the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth, Google. Google. Google, n.d. Web. 11 Apr. 2015. Evolution is the reason there is change in the genetic makeup of a population, the reason organisms are linked by common ancestors, and evolution is still happening today because of the constant change in environment. This paper focuses on these subjects within evolution and will explore all areas of the process of evolution that creates diversity and unity in life. One key component of evolution is natural selection. Natural selection is a theory, first presented by Charles Darwin, that is well known across the globe. It is the reason why there is change of genetic makeup in evolution. Natural selection is caused by the variation between generations, as well as the survival of different individuals with different combinations of traits. The theory poses that organisms with characteristics that increase their probability of survival will be given the chance to produce more offspring. This means that the organism is more fit . These offsprings are then given the benefiting characteristic. With time more variation throughout the species will develop. For an example of why evolution is dependent on natural selection Berkeley College talks about a population of beetles. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Disillusionment In Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell To Arms Many of the most deeply emotional, profound ruminations on human nature are found in novels published after a major war. The authors of these novels were once soldiers, living in fear and enduring sleepless nights. These authors channel their experiences and emotions into their work, often creating masterpieces of literature. A Farewell to Arms is one such novel. Ernest Hemingway was in the Italian ambulance corps in World War I, much like the protagonist of A Farewell to Arms, Frederic Henry. The themes in A Farewell to Arms reflect his mentality and the typical soldier s disillusionment in the institutions and values he had always held close. A Farewell to Arms explores the far reaching disillusionment that seems to plague Frederic like a disease. The theme of Frederic Henry s disillusionment of all that he believes in is found through his desertion of the war, the deterioration of his relationship with Catherine, and his thoughts on life. While Frederic is never passionate about the war, he does experience a change from casually indifferent to fervently avoiding the war. In the beginning of the novel, it is clear that although Frederic is participating in the war, he does not seem to seek anything more, such as promotion or glory. Frederic s involvement in the war is fairly happenstance; when pressed about why he joined the Italian ambulance corps, he responds, There isn t always an explanation for everything (Hemingway). Remembering, the mind boggling ability in which the human brain can conjure up very specific, very lucid, long gone episodes from any given point on the timeline of our lives, is an astounding feat. Yet, along with our brain s ability of remembrance comes also the concept of forgetting: interruptions of memory or an inability of consciousness to make present to itself what it wants (Honold, 1994, p. 2). Susan Griffin, a feminist writer and finalist for the Pulitzer Price in non fiction, explores the concept of forgetting in her chapter Our Secret . Unlike Foer, Griffin (1992) doesn t seem to be too much a fan of remembering, describing memory to be like a long, half lit tunnel, a tunnel where one is likely to encounter phantoms of a self, long concealed, no longer nourished with the force of consciousness, existing in a tortured state between life and death (p. 258). In fact, Griffin might argue that there are several benefits to forgetting, and that the collective memories of a traumatic past should not be remembered or preserved. Failure to retrieve memories may not always be a bad thing, in fact, unwanted memories of childhood trauma, emotional rejection, or any of life s inevitable disappointments have the ability to torment and mentally exhaust a person. Throughout her essay, Griffin explores the hidden shame and pains that several characters carry, herself included, and the consequences they bring. She writes of one woman s memories of the cold war, who, as a young child, witnessed shoes in great piles. Bones. • 22. Analysis Of John Donne s Holy Sonnet Xiv In Holy Sonnet XIV, John Donne directly addresses God using a desperate and forceful tone. The formal structure of Donne s holy sonnet follows the basic Petrarchan sonnet form. The sonnet has fourteen lines divided into an octave and a sestet. The rhyme scheme of the octave is abba abba. The sestet has the rhyme scheme cdcdee. Donne expresses his spiritual turmoil and longing by using this structure to present different metaphors that illustrate his condition, and he uses Petrarchan conventions to further highlight his spiritual desires. The octave introduces and illustrates the spiritual difficulty that Donne finds himself in trapped in, and wants God to take him out of. The first line starts with Donne s desperate and urgent command to God to batter or violently beat his heart (1). Donne uses the metaphor of his heart as a metal object, and God as a metal smith to support this command. Donne s heart is a broken object that the metal smith has gently stroked, breathed on to shine, and polished, in order to fix the broken parts. However, Donne claims that this is not enough. The metal smith needs to break, blow, burn in order to make the object new (4). The metal smith must apply more force to shatter the object, and then place it into the fire to melt, so the metal can be purified and new. Donne seems to be telling God that his heart is too broken by sin to be mended through God s normal ways of opening the heart to faith again. God needs to bend ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Receivers can be GPS in a car, a chip located in a cell phone, military tracking devises, police radios, or even something as every day as a watch. The distance between the satellite and receiver is measured using the exact distance from six different satellites that locates a particular receiver on a particular path at the intersection of the two satellites. Continuing on from this, Ulysses may doubt whether returning home after his first journey was the right thing for him to do. This can be shown as he devotes the beginning 26 lines to detailing his dissatisfaction and discontent of spending his last years doing nothing. A quote to support this is I cannot rest from travel line 6 which implies his boredom and that he wants to get the most out of life; meaning travelling. Ulysses is also uncertain about his relationship with his son, Telemachus. Even though he respects him and wishes him to be king; to whom I leave the sceptre and the isle , Ulysses doesn t believe that he has a bond with his son.
