5. What about human
behaviour?
How did you decide what time you
set your alarm this morning so you
would be ready for school on time?
6. Why do you nearly
always sit in the same
spot in class?
In a chaotic world we like to
control our environment
A predictable pattern that brings order
7. “At first, the earth was completely empty. There was nothing on the
earth. Darkness covered the ocean, and God’s Spirit moved over the
water.” Genesis 1:1-2 (ERV)
“God created the sky and
the earth.”
8. We can use these to plan, predict, and then build and create other
mathematical ideas
God built patterns
into our world

9. God brought order out of
chaos
He tasked us to do the
same
“So God created humans in his own image. He created them to be like himself... God
blessed them and said to them, “Have many children. Fill the earth and take control of
it... Rule over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:28-29 ERV
11. “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer
and winter, day and night will never cease” Genesis 8:22
(The patterns in creation!)
13. “Google and Facebook will be able understand you
better than you understand yourself… know how
you feel and why you feel that way”
The universe is devoid of meaning or purpose.
We are all merely the superficial expressions of
complex mathematical equations being
performed by our biochemistries

14. God is sovereign
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the
firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were
created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and
invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or
authorities; all things have been created through him
and for him.
Christians have the certainty that God is
in control
15. However God is sovereign
He is before all things, and in him all things hold
together. And he is the head of the body, the
church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from
among the dead, so that in everything he might have
the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his
fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to
himself all things, whether things on earth or things in
heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on
the cross. Col 1:15-20
Christians have the certainty that God is
in control
16. Humans are created
with freewill
They are not robots…
And the LORD God commanded the man, “You
are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but
you must not eat from the tree of the
knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat
from it you will certainly die.” Genesis 2:16-17
17. What about the richness in
life?
Love
Wonder
Wisdom
Joy
Gifts
18. …But not
everything can be
reduced to
patterns of
behaviour
…that is the beautiful way God designed it to be
19. God wants humans to make use
of the patterns that exist in His
world as they live in community
and serve each other
To enjoy… but not to control each other!
20. A Christian response would be to urge
those in the fields of genetics, artificial
intelligence, nanotechnology, and
biotechnology to consider the ethics
behind their research.
Use it towards the service of the common good rather than the power
of an elite few!
21. Technologies that strengthen rather than
destroy family ties, communal bonds, and local
and global networks of cooperation, as well as
those which contribute to the spread of love,
justice, and human flourishing might be a good
thing
“But God put the body together and gave more honor to the parts that need it… God
wanted the different parts to care the same for each other. If one part of the body suffers,
then all the other parts suffer with it. Or if one part is honored, then all the other parts
share its honor. All of you together are the body of Christ. Each one of you is a part of that
body.” 1 Corinthians 12: 24b-27
22. Jesus said: “I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full” John
10:10
