Grade: 3 Period: 1
1. Behavioral Objective:
By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to appreciate classical music by
singing lyrics of pop songs they know to them.
2. Required Prior Knowledge and Skills:
No prior knowledge is needed for this lesson. However, their activator will be to
write a paragraph on what they think about when they hear the world classical
music.

7. Accommodations/Special Needs:
I have a student with ADD. I shall ensure that he/she is able to color while we are
having the listening exercise and provide pictures to look at while we are learning
more on classical music appreciation.
8. Lesson Sequence: (Add or delete activities as needed for the lesson – list
individual steps for each activity)…
Activity Estimated time
Activator: write a paragraph on what
you think about when they hear the
world classical music.
5 minutes
Have the student write a paragraph on
what they think about classical music.
5 minutes
Define classical music and play a
sample of the Viennese Musical clock
while they move around the classroom.
10 minutes
Ask them to mention their favorite pop
song so that we can match the lyrics to
the song.
5 minutes
Do the same exercise for Nutcracker
and a portion of Fur Elise.
10 minutes
End class by playing the Viennese
musical clock and mention that it will
be the subject of the next lesson.
5 minutes
9. Evaluation/Diagnosis/Remediation: Notes to self about teacher procedure,
student response, and things to fix in the future.

  • 1. LESSON PLAN Teacher: Wambura Mitaru Date: May 9, 2013 Grade: 3 Period: 1 1. Behavioral Objective: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to appreciate classical music by singing lyrics of pop songs they know to them. 2. Required Prior Knowledge and Skills: No prior knowledge is needed for this lesson. However, their activator will be to write a paragraph on what they think about when they hear the world classical music. 3. Processes:  Performing  Listening 5. Assessment: Informal 6. Materials, Repertoire, Equipment needed: Pencils Erasers Radio and speakers A room clock
  • 2. Recording of Kodaly’s Viennese Musical Clock (Classics for kids) Recording of Fur Elise by Beethoven Recording of Nutcracker 7. Accommodations/Special Needs: I have a student with ADD. I shall ensure that he/she is able to color while we are having the listening exercise and provide pictures to look at while we are learning more on classical music appreciation. 8. Lesson Sequence: (Add or delete activities as needed for the lesson – list individual steps for each activity)… Activity Estimated time Activator: write a paragraph on what you think about when they hear the world classical music. 5 minutes Have the student write a paragraph on what they think about classical music. 5 minutes Define classical music and play a sample of the Viennese Musical clock while they move around the classroom. 10 minutes Ask them to mention their favorite pop song so that we can match the lyrics to the song. 5 minutes Do the same exercise for Nutcracker and a portion of Fur Elise. 10 minutes End class by playing the Viennese musical clock and mention that it will be the subject of the next lesson. 5 minutes 9. Evaluation/Diagnosis/Remediation: Notes to self about teacher procedure, student response, and things to fix in the future.
