Conditional type 0
If you heat ice, it melts.
Conditional 0
• Situations that are always true if something happens.
• Example :
→ If you heat ice, it melts.
→ When I am late, my father takes me to school.
Or
 If I am late, my father takes me to school.
She doesn't worry if Jack stays out after school.
Note that we can start with the “ if clause” or leave it to
the middle, but in this case, no comma is used !
The Rule :
• If/when + simple present+ , + simple present.
Or
• Simple present + if + simple present.
Conditional type 1
• Also Called the "real conditional” because it is used for real,
possible situations.
• NOTE
In the conditional 1 , we often use “unless” = 'if ... not'.
 Example : we can say : '...unless he hurries up.' could also be
written, '...if he doesn't hurry up.'.
• If it rains, we will stay at home.
• He will arrive late unless he hurries up.
• Peter will buy a new car if he gets his raise.
Conditional type 2
I bet If I were an IpWoerde , you’d listen to me !
It’s used to talk about unreal situations in the
present or in the future:
Examples :
If I had a million dollar, I would buy a big house
If + simple past+ would + infinitive.
If I were you, I wouldn’t invite him to the party.
If cats had wings, you could fly away from dogs
and cars.
Not: at all subject pronouns ( to be) in the past
is : « Were » ,not « was ». I / he/ she  were.
Conditional type 3
If I had woken up on time, I
wouldn’t have missed the bus last
week . Now, I lost my job!
If I had been more careful,
I wouldn’t have cut my
finger :(
If I had not stayed in the
sun all the day, the sun
wouldn’t have burnt my
face .
The third conditional is used to talk about
things which DID NOT HAPPEN in the past and It
is often used to express criticism or regret:
Example Explanation
If you had driven more carefully, you
would not have had an accident.
Criticism: You had an accident because
you didn't drive carefully enough.
If we had played a little better, we could
have won the game.
Regret: We didn't play well, so we lost the
game.
If you had saved your money, you could
have bought a computer.
Criticism: You didn't save your money, so
now you can't afford a computer.
If it had snowed, we could have gone
skiing.
Regret: It didn't snow, so we couldn't go
skiing.
Rule :
If + past perfect + Would + present
perfect
If I had driven carefully, I wouldnt have
had an accident !
ReWrite the following sentences as indicated :
Example : The national team didn’t win the match. They didn’t play well.
If the national teach had played well, they would have won the match.
1. He crashed his car because he fell asleep while driving.
If he……………. asleep while driving, he ……………his car.
2. We couldn't go to the concert because we didn't have enough money.
If we ……………enough money, we ……………to the concert.
3. I lost my job because I was late for work.
I ……………my job if I…………… late for work.
4. The wind was so strong that the bridge collapsed.
If the wind…………… so strong, the bridge…………… .
5. I couldn't call Sally because I had lost her number.
I ……………Sally if I…………… her number.
If you had listened to ME
carefully , you would have
understood the lesson !
Ok ! I will explain !
If you listen
carefully now,
you’ll surely
understand the
listen !
If I had a magic stick,
I would make of you
understand without
having to repeat again
!!
But you know what!
The fact is :
If you work hard,
you succeed !
