  15. 27. How did you know? The nature of literacy is characterized by the theoretical lens that is used to examine it (Ruddell, Ruddell, & Singer, 1994).
  16. 28. <ul><li>Code breaker –to crack the code of the written spoken and visual text, determine how it works and what are its patterns and conventions. </li></ul><ul><li>Meaning-maker – resources which enable the reader to access the literal or implied meaning of the text, and utilise his/her socio-cultural background to make meaning. </li></ul><ul><li>Text user – resources which enable the reader to determine and fulfil their role in using the text. </li></ul><ul><li>Text analyst – resources which enable the reader to critically analyse the construction of the text in terms of the author’s intentions, ideologies, inclusions and omissions. </li></ul>
