The document discusses how the author linked their main magazine product with two ancillary texts. They used consistent typography, color themes, and language across all pieces. The magazine, front cover, and poster all used the colors purple and white and referenced "Admire Anglia". Photos from the magazine were also used in the poster to connect the visuals. The radio advertisement used similar wording to the magazine cover to tie them together through shared language. Relating all pieces back to the magazine title helped create an effective marketing campaign that would reach a wider audience.
2. I linked my main product and ancillary texts together
by using different conventions. I learnt to do this
through additional research and looking at examples
such as, Country Homes magazine.
The typography and colour theme used were the same
throughout the entire magazine. 1 issue yellow was the
primary colour, whereas the following issue was taken
over by pink. However, it flowed and matched. I knew
I had to plan my magazine like this in order for it to
flow softly and in turn, link and combine with the 2
ancillary texts very easily.
3. Country Homes clearly has a neutral theme
in this issue as the colours used are blue,
white and a sandy grey. It is visible that this
links within the magazine also as the photo
displays blue items, linking, once again to
the colour scheme.
I have tried to reinforce this within my texts.
The colour scheme of purple and white used
on the front cover is identical to that used
on the poster. This shows a clear link
between the 2 texts as they share the same
colour scheme as well as similar fonts.
The photo I used for the poster is one of the
many photos I captured when I found front
cover photo. This also shows a clear link
because the same location was used for both
the front cover and poster,
4. Regarding my radio advertisement and the
comparison between the main product and itself, the 2
texts are linked together through language. When
recording the radio advertisement, I tried to be well
spoken but I also used words and sentences that had
previously been used on the front cover. Such as,
‘homes, gardens, getaways, food and lifestyle…’
Therefore showing a clear link. The language used in
the contents page also suggests this as the text is
targeted by women and this is made evident through
the stories referenced.
5. A similarity and clear comparison between the main
text and both ancillary's is the title. All reference it
somehow. Both the front cover and the poster display,
‘Admire Anglia’ at the top of the page. This once again
shows a link because it is obvious that all texts are
promoting and endorsing the magazine. The radio
advertisement also mentions ‘Admire Anglia’ at the
end of the speech; mentioning the name of the
magazine and the slogan. In turn this makes all 3 texts
very effective because they are creating a strong
campaign to buy the magazine.
6. Another effective link made between the main product
and ancillary texts, is the attraction to women and my
target audience. The colour them also entices you in.
Purple and white are girly, fresh, pretty colours which
are featured in both the magazine and the poster. This
allows an effective link to be made between the poster
and front cover because customers may get intrigued
by the poster and want to know where to buy the
magazine. All of the information referring to that is
referenced on the poster.
7. Although it is clear that all texts are linked and related,
another aspect that needs to be considered is that of
the marketing convention. The main product as well as
both ancillary texts enables a wider audience to be
reached. Therefore, regarding all texts as effective.
Especially when linked together as they manage to
attract a wider audience.
Overall, I feel that the linking of the main product
alongside both ancillary texts makes for a strong and
effective magazine as every step has been taken in
order to link each text together.
