6. 1220 - Ghengis Khan attacks almost every major city. Terror and tyranny of Mongols leaves long lasting shadow over Iran.
7. 1502-1736 - Safavid Dynasty -Persia converts to Shi'ism. Shah Ismail I unites all of Persia under Iranian leadership after some nine centuries of foreign or fragmented rule. Shah Ismail declares Shi'ism as the state religion and forcefully converts virtually all of Persia. Iran takes it modern shape and contemporary Shi'i character.

11. 1905 to 1911– Constitutional Revolution: Iran's merchants and clergy again lead mass movement calling for constitution and parliament after Russo-Japanese War
