7. At the start of this film there are a lot of clues given to the audience about the
film. However the introduction does not give faces of people away which makes
the audience think that there is a secret or „dirty‟ business going on.
There are pictures shown by the
camera shot calling „Panning‟.
This shows the audience the
main characters that are involved
and shows the lifestyle
achievements. This is part of the
introduction to the characters.
This shot introduces some information about the owner
or one of the family members with the initials of „JR‟.
In this film they stand for Jackson Rippner who is
played by Cillian Murphy.
8. These are close up shots in which shows as the wallet with initials of JR. This
reveals to the audience the importance of this wallet and to the owner. The
sound of the keys placed on the table makes the audience uncomfortable. There
is a sound of a water turned on which refers to shower but it does not show the
person who has left the wallet or who has gone to the shower. At this point all
the focus is on the wallet. We can hear a door screeching which makes the
audience feel like another person as entered without anyone's permission as
there is no dialogue. The location of this shot is inside a house .There is not
much clues given away about the location but we can see that there are pictures
of a person which makes the location seem like it is private.
9. This shows a plan of something important.
This shows the audience the character
that the whole film will evolve in.
Point of view shot which gives
some information to the
audience of what is going on.
However still there is not a lot
of information passed around
which makes the audience
want to watch more and find
out what exactly is going on.
10. There are some midpoint shots which reveal a dark location and men working fast
and quietly which the audience suspicious. At the same time there are introductions
displayed of the main actors .There are not a lot of clues given away of the location
which makes it seem like a unknown , hidden and private place .
The sound is very fast in tempo which makes the audience feel and see a lot of action
going on, once again there is no dialogue going on which does not help the audience
get a real idea of what is going on.
11. The continuity editing portrays the sense of reality as it moves the story
forwards. There is a sound bridge continued on from scene to scene which also
portrays the sense of reality and reveal the same wallet but in a different
location. This creates the sense of lots of action going on at the same time. The
same fast tempo non diegetic sound creates tempo as it portrays the importance
of both scenes and the importance of the wallet. The person who has taken the
wallet is not revealed which creates mystery and foreshadows the main events of
wanting to track this owner of the wallet down. The audience is left with the
want and need to solve this mystery and identify the “bad guys” which are later
revealed as the main people wanting to destroy this family.
The fact that someone can break in to this house and steal a wallet with no
struggle show how powerful and strategicall these people are.
12. Another change in location of the delivered good.
We do not get a clear view of the new location but
we can assume that this good was delivered fast as
it is still dark in the background. This makes the
audience think that it is a very important good
which needed to be delivered fast.
Both of these things that changed
the location are revealed which
makes the audience think that
there is a big group of people
working together fast. This
foreshadows the films story which
involves a group of people working
together to achive their plan of
killing Charles and blackmailing
assistant of a hotel Lisa into
helping them as Jackson has
threatened to kill her father.
As we can see there was a box hidden which
was revealed at the end of the introduction of all
the character and was finished by the directors
name.
13. After attending her grandmother's funeral in Dallas, Texas, Lisa Reisert
(Rachel McAdams) takes a red-eye flight to Miami, Florida. While in the
check-in line she meets Jackson Rippner (Cillian Murphy).
When boarding, Lisa discovers that Jackson is
on the same flight and seated beside her. After
take off, Rippner reveals that he is a terrorist
operative working for a group who intends to
assassinate the United States Deputy Secretary
of Homeland Security Charles Keefe (Jack
Scalia) and his family.
The assassination plan is to use a portable missile
launcher from a boat in a nearby harbor and fire it at
the hotel. In order for this to work, Rippner must force
Lisa to make a phone call from the in-flight phone and
order the hotel staff to change Keefe's reservation to a
suite facing the harbor. If she refuses to cooperate, he
will deploy a hitman to kill her father, Joe (Brian
Cox), at his home in Miami.
