Laurence Stephen Lowry, born 1st
November 1887-23rd February 1976 was
an English artist born is Stretford,
Lancashire. He is mostly famous for his
paintings of industrial districts of North
West England and of the mid-20th
century. He developed a distinctive style
of painting and his urban landscapes
with people also known as “matchstick
men”.

public said his paintings are childish.
After his death he was famous for his artwork,
which now is in the Lowry Museum, in Salford
Quays, Salford.
