Semantic Web technologies (such as RDF and SPARQL) excel at bringing together diverse data in a world of independent data publishers and consumers. Common ontologies help to arrive at a shared understanding of the intended meaning of data.
However, they don’t address one critically important issue: What does it mean for data to be complete and/or valid? Semantic knowledge graphs without a shared notion of completeness and validity quickly turn into a Big Ball of Data Mud.
The Shapes Constraint Language (SHACL), an upcoming W3C standard, promises to help solve this problem. By keeping semantics separate from validity, SHACL makes it possible to resolve a slew of data quality and data exchange issues.

Over the past 4 years, the Semantic Web activity has gained momentum with the widespread publishing of structured data as RDF. The Linked Data paradigm has therefore evolved from a practical research idea into
a very promising candidate for addressing one of the biggest challenges
of computer science: the exploitation of the Web as a platform for data
and information integration. To translate this initial success into a
world-scale reality, a number of research challenges need to be
addressed: the performance gap between relational and RDF data
management has to be closed, coherence and quality of data published on
the Web have to be improved, provenance and trust on the Linked Data Web
must be established and generally the entrance barrier for data
publishers and users has to be lowered. This tutorial will discuss
approaches for tackling these challenges. As an example of a successful
Linked Data project we will present DBpedia, which leverages Wikipedia
by extracting structured information and by making this information
freely accessible on the Web. The tutorial will also outline some recent advances in DBpedia, such as the mappings Wiki, DBpedia Live as well as
the recently launched DBpedia benchmark.

Improving the Life of Data Scientists: Automating ML Lifecycle through MLflowDatabricks
The data science lifecycle consists of multiple iterative steps: data collection, data cleaning/exploration, feature engineering, model training, model deployment and scoring among others. The process is often tedious and error-prone and requires considerable human effort. Apart from these challenges, when it comes to leveraging ML in enterprise applications, especially in regulated environments, the level of scrutiny for data handling, model fairness, user privacy, and debuggability is very high. In this talk, we present the basic features of Flock, an end-to-end platform that facilitates adoption of ML in enterprise applications. We refer to this new class of applications as Enterprise Grade Machine Learning (EGML). Flock leverages MLflow to simplify and automate some of the steps involved in supporting EGML applications, allowing data scientists to spend most of their time on improving their ML models. Flock makes use of MLflow for model and experiment tracking but extends and complements it by providing automatic logging, deeper integration with relational databases that often store confidential data, model optimizations and support for the ONNX model format and the ONNX Runtime for inference. We will also present our ongoing work on automatically tracking lineage between data and ML models which is crucial in regulated environments. We will showcase Flock’s features through a demo using Microsoft’s Azure Data Studio and MLflow.
RDF2Vec: RDF Graph Embeddings for Data MiningPetar Ristoski
Linked Open Data has been recognized as a valuable source for background information in data mining. However, most data mining tools require features in propositional form, i.e., a vector of nominal or numerical features associated with an instance, while Linked Open Data sources are graphs by nature. In this paper, we present RDF2Vec, an approach that uses language modeling approaches for unsupervised feature extraction from sequences of words, and adapts them to RDF graphs. We generate sequences by leveraging local information from graph sub-structures, harvested by Weisfeiler-Lehman Subtree RDF Graph Kernels and graph walks, and learn latent numerical representations of entities in RDF graphs. Our evaluation shows that such vector representations outperform existing techniques for the propositionalization of RDF graphs on a variety of different predictive machine learning tasks, and that feature vector representations of general knowledge graphs such as DBpedia and Wikidata can be easily reused for different tasks.

The Web is nowadays inextricably intertwined with our lives and our systems. The ability for a system to interact with web-based applications is not anymore a feature — it is the thin line that separates démodé from contemporary!
DDS-based systems are not exception to this rule and as a consequence more and more people are trying bring DDS data to web applications. In a technology rich environment such as the web there is no lack of choice when it comes to selecting the set of tools and technologies to integrate DDS and Web applications. Options are Web Services, REST,
REST Frameworks such as CometD, Silverlight, WebSockets, DART, the Play! Framework etc.
To help shed light, give insight and factually show that the DDS/Web integration is indeed easily achievable, this presentation will first provide an overview of the Web technologies that are most suited for integrating Web- and DDS-applications, such as plain REST, CometD, WebSockets, Google Dart, and Play! Then it will demonstrate how the integration can be achieved with just a few lines of code by using the OpenSplice Gateway.

Ein Backend für ein weltweit erfolgreiches Social Game zu entwickeln ist nicht einfach, aber die eigentliche Herausforderung ist der Betrieb der Systeme! Bei Wooga sind dieselben zwei bis drei Entwickler für beides verantwortlich. Über die letzten zwei Jahren hat sich ein halbes Dutzend Teams dieser Herausforderung gestellt. Dabei konnten sie auf die Erfahrungen der vorhergehenden Teams zurückgreifen und hatten die Freiheit, eigene Lösungsansätze zu verfolgen. Der Vortrag wird die entstandene Evolution der Backends nachvollziehen: Anfangs LAMP, dann Ruby statt PHP, dann NoSQL statt MySQL und am Ende ohne Datenbank auf Basis von Erlang OTP. Die Darstellung dieser Reise wird anschaulich zeigen, welche Vorteile es haben kann, Entwicklern auch einmal freie Hand zu lassen.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
