My fall 2010 report to the Board of Administration for the Free Methodist Church. I've taken out sensitive data and kept the message and vision on task.
3. IMAGINE THIS
• A small girl in Africa with no hope encounters a Free Methodist Missionary
• She begins studying the Bible
• She begins school
4. IMAGINE THIS
• She now has hope.
• She encounters the Holy Spirit.
• She finds purpose in school.
• The missionary, under-resourced and disconnected, has no way to spread this amazing
story.
5. WHAT IF...
What if the missionary had the resources and access to the technology to spread the
message?
6. WHAT IF...
Web Page Title
MISSIONARY'S BLOG
A missionary with access to the right technology posts the story on his blog.
The post is pushed to the blog’s subscribers, prayer partners, donors, and other
interested parties.
7. WHAT IF...
Web Page Title Web Page Title
MISSIONARY'S BLOG FREE METHODIST
Because the story is so powerful it is picked up and put onto the homepage of the
Free Methodist Church.
8. Web Page Title

Web Page Title
MISSIONARY'S BLOG
New interested people pick up on the stories through the social media outlets and
are directed back to freemethodistchurch.org and the Missionary’s blog. Every new

10. UNPRECEDENTED
OPPORTUNITY FOR FMC
• Never before has the church been able to communicate and converse
with such large numbers of people so instantaneously and effectively. How?
• Growth of global access to technology and therefore to information
• Dramatically lower costs to create, distribute and access information.
• Over 1.7 Billion people are active on the Internet
• 74.2% North America
• 19.4% Asia
• 6.8% Africa
11. OPEN LEADERSHIP
• First time in human history that communication can happen on a
global scale
• The ability to communicate effectively breaks a number of long
standing rules
• Message/content is created centrally
• Message/content is distributed centrally
• Message/content is a oneway street with the reader or
listener unable to interact or comment.
• However - things are changing
12. WHAT IS ALLOWING THIS
CHANGE?
• Growth of access to technology globally
• Mobile
• Cheap
• Pervasive
• Common standards or at least clear winners
• Ability to Publish
• Ability to comment, participate, vote, organize
15. WHY THIS MATTERS FOR
FMC?
• History of excellence in writing and publishing
• History of a consistent publishing schedule
• Bishops with giftings in communication
• Transformational occurring activity around the planet
- we have an important story to tell
16. SUGGESTED NEXT STEPS
• Maintain history of publishing. Why?
• Not sure how this will all turn out and it is working
• Commit to new distribution channels immediately
• Web
• Mobile
• Tablet
• Redistribute print material through these new channels
• Encourage publishing, feedback and sharing
17. NEW DISTRIBUTION
CHANNELS
• Current Model
• Magazine (36,000 People)
• Small Email List
• Outdated & Ineffective
Website
• We have the content
• We need to change the way
it is distributed
19. THE CURRENT WAY
• Slowinformation
turnaround
• No instant access to
additional information
20. THE NEW WAY
• Cost of Distribution: $0
• Almostinstant information
turnaround
• Instant
access to additional
information
• Multiple languages
