I had to make a Magazine Profile explaining my media product and what it is. I had to explain why I chose certain things to be in my magazine and why I chose my masthead.
2. What is My Magazine About?
My Magazine is all about R&B Music. It will include different types of
things such as photos of different artists, interviews with certain artists,
posters for the reader, competitions, tours and other information that
will satisfy the reader. These are the potential things that will feature
inside the magazine and of course, other elements to surprise the reader.
3. Style & Colour Scheme
The style of the magazine will be similar to Vibe and Billboards
magazine as they are the 2 R&B magazine’s that I looked at. I like
the style and layout used and will use similar ideas but also include
my own features so that it doesn’t all look the same. The colour
scheme is going to be based on just 3 colours; blue, black and
white. However, I will also include one or two more colours to
make the magazine stand out more and attract the reader’s eye,
especially on the front cover. The other colours I was thinking of
including was red and maybe yellow.
4. What Genre is the Magazine?
The genre is R&B as this is the genre I can relate to best and I have
friends and props that I can use for when taking the pictures.
Some R&B artists that I have based my pictures on is Drake, Lil
Wayne, Chris Brown, Cassie, Beyoncé, Jay Sean, Alicia Keys and
many more famous R&B artists. I have looked at the different
camera shots used in these artists’ pictures and have decided to
use the same idea but make the person I’m taking the picture of,
pose in a different way so that it is unique.
5. Who is My Target Audience?
My target audience is mainly young teenagers – young adults
however, there will be some people outside the target audience
that like the music of these R&B artists. As I am at a similar age to
the target market, I thought it would be a good idea to use a genre
that I can relate too and I know that most people around my age
listen to R&B/Hip-Hop/Rap type of music and as I know more
about R&B than the other two genre’s, I chose to do my music
magazine about R&B.
6. Mise-En-Scene
Mise-en-scene is a vital part to the magazine because if the pictures I take
consist of items of clothing that relate to another genre rather than mine,
then the magazine won’t look good and I will lose marks too. This is why I
had to look at different R&B magazines and look at the clothes and props
they use on their artists. When taking my pictures, I have to take into
consideration body language, facial expression, clothes and props, setting
and composition. If the body language and facial expression isn’t good, then
the picture won’t be as effective. The clothes and props have to relate to
R&B otherwise the reader will be confused and the magazine won’t look as
good as it is supposed to be. The setting is also key because I can’t take a
picture of someone with bling outside a farm because these two things
don’t go together at all and the same with composition, I can’t have props
in the background that will ruin the picture e.g. a picture of flowers in a
frame getting into a picture of someone who looks like they belong to a
‘gang’.
7. Branding
Branding is another important aspect that I need to consider when
making my music magazine. I will use different fonts throughout
the magazine but will use one main font for majority of the
writing. This font will be decided once I have collected results from
my survey. I will also keep some things on each page and use the
same type of colour scheme to make it look like each page is from
the same magazine otherwise it won’t look good and will look like
it has come from 2 or 3 different magazines.
8. Name & Masthead
Practice Masthead First Masthead
Final Masthead
REWIND
I have chosen to use red and white as the main 2 colours because
these are 2 of 3 main colours I am using in my magazine and think it
stands out on the front cover against the other colours (blue). Also,
the main picture on the front cover is of 2 people wearing red and
white clothes so I think it will relate to the masthead a lot more
rather than the white and blue.
9. Likely Cover Price
The likely cover price will be around £1.50-£2 but will depends on
the results I get from my survey.
