Kodaline uses simplistic landscape photography on their album covers that creates a natural feel relating to their Irish identity. Their light color palettes produce a fresh, raw atmosphere. The document discusses how albums by London Grammar and Mumford & Sons also feature natural landscapes. It then analyzes the debut album "My Head Is an Animal" by the Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men. When looking for inspiration for my production packaging I came across
The Irish band Kodaline. I found there artwork for there albums eye
catching because of the simplistic landscape photography used which
forms a natural feel to the band, relating to british’ness too.
The albums colour pallets are light and clear creating a fresh, raw feeling
to the work. I like how this feeling and atmosphere is produced but also
the use of photography used within the album, which I wish to include in
mine.

Of Monsters and Men is a five-member band from Iceland, who formed in 2010. My Head Is an Animal is the
debut studio album by the band it was released through Record Records 2011. with their success in making
the Icelandic charts with their single, "Little Talks", the band signed with Universal Music Group and the album
was released in North America through Republic Records on 3 April 2012. The title of the album comes from
the second line in "Dirty Paws". The album is a two sided cardboard digipak, the design layout is simple but
effective. I was drawn to analysis the album because of its modern, unique 2 panel cardboard layout. The
simplistic font and background photo relate well to the theme of wildness, nature and the outdoors, this is
because of the natural, bland colours used in the photograph, which its self is a non posed/ positioned
photograph. The background of the bleak beach fits well with the album titles and theme of the outside,
Iceland and wildness. For names of the songs are contained below:

“The picture on the front of the international release is a
picture that Brynjar's grandfather took of his friend. The
original was black and white; Arnar Hilmarsson added the
coloring. The picture on the back is a family picture that Ragnar
found in his family pictures.
The pictures on the front and back of the Icelandic release
depict men dressed for the Icelandic national sport of Glima.”
The use of natural photography inspires me for my own digipak, but also the idea of how the photo is originally an old photo.

7. The typography
The modern typography text, conflicts but works well with the natural, nostalgic image. This is
because of the enlarged beginning pink letters with modern, line typography used.
The pastel colour scheme works well, as it
enhances the nostalgic feeling to the cover,
whilst adding a modern feeling to the album
because of the brighter pink used.
The audience
The way how the CD folds out and that it is made from
cardboard adds to the users experience, because of the
interaction to a new kind of CD but also material as
well.
