The Perception Process BY YuwachetSiritham
WHAT DO YOU SEE? Perception is the process of selecting, sorting and interpreting information inputs to produce meaning. OR WE COULD SAY we chose what info we pay attention to, organize it and interpret it.
There are three steps in the perception process First, We select Second, We sort Third, We interpret data from our environment
FIRST Select data from the environment selection inputs are the sensations received through all five of our senses.
All five senses are………………. Sight Smell Hearing Feeling Taste
Our senses are like windows to the world through which information passes from the environment to ourselves When we say select, we don’t mean just a conscious selection effort. Selection is actually more of an awareness process. The first stage of selection acts as a filtering mechanism. Most of the data we are exposed to filtered out, while some is selected o pass on to our awareness. From all the thousands of stimuli we are bombarded with at any one moment, we choose some to enter our awareness. Intense, repetitious or changing stimuli attract our attention and shape what we notice (select) and what we ignore.
Second Organize and prioritize the information and data that we have become aware of. We organize and prioritize the data so that certain information stands out over other information. This organization is based on our experiences and may not be shared by others. Each of us has a unique method of organizing.
Third We manipulate the data to give meaning to the information that has been selected and sorted. All we have is data which makes no sense and has no meaning. We search our memory and assign meaning to the data based on its similarity to our previous experiences. Interpreting the data

Do you know??????? Sight -Human can distinguish 7,500,000 different shades of color Sound- Human can distinguish sounds ranging from 20 to 20,000 cycles per second (Hz.). Smell- Human can recognize 5000 odors. Taste- Human can distinguish 10,000 different tastes. Touch- Human fingers can feel separation between objects as small as 3-8 millimeters apart.
