creating an interactive instructional activity with
animated and live action, sign language interpreted
video.
• Each template slide uses icons to show placement of
photos, text, video, and navigational icons.
• Links are active.

3. Organize
• Create a file folder on the desktop named

These slides have two objects (black rectangle,
outlined in green, and a newspaper) on top of
the actual slide. I used the objects as an
animated reward.
To edit the slide beneath the objects, click
anywhere on them and drag them off to the
side.
When you’ve finished editing the slide,
reposition both objects.

9. American Sign Language (ASL) Multimedia Storybooks
User Notes
The Author’s charming children’s story, Book Title, provides a rich learning
environment for elementary-aged hard of hearing students’ direct vocabulary
instruction . Five interactive multimedia activities offer students opportunities to
explore the story and learn targeted vocabulary words. After interacting with
instructional activities students;
•match the ASL sign of targeted vocabulary words to pictorial representations;
•match the ASL signed definitions of targeted vocabulary words to pictorial
representations; and
• select the appropriate pictorial representation of a targeted vocabulary word to
answer a question about the story, Book Title.
Targeted vocabulary words for Book Title include:
Target 1, Target 2, Target 3, Target 4, Target 5.
The storybook has been designed for Speech/Language Pathologists, teachers, and
parents to use with young hard of hearing children. After brief initial instruction,
most children will be able to navigate the program with minimal assistance from an
adult.
On the “What Will You Do?” menu page, the friendly squirrel tour guide
suggests the order of activities, but students have also demonstrated
success in and enthusiasm for directing their own instructional order.
Before you begin, please review the navigational icons and action
buttons.

Special Note for slides 34, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44:These slides have an object (black rectangle, outlined in green, with a newspaper in the center) on top of the slide. I used it to add an animated reward. To edit the slide beneath the object, simply click anywhere on the black background and drag it to one side. Then you’ll need to drag the newspaper off. When you’ve finished editing the slide, drag ‘em back!
