1. 1. Developing action steps
Things to change
• Learn and apply new technology tools
• Engage students in the use of internet to become independent learners
• Promote cooperative work
• Create an English-only environment
• Design my courses applying differentiated instruction
• Reinforce students’ speaking skills
2. 2. Set long terms goals first
• I am satisfied with the work I perform in certain areas, there are others I need to
improve.
• I would like to be in a stage where my students work cooperatively, learn by
themselves, command the language and are interested in learning.
• I do really enjoy my everyday activities.
• I would feel better if I could get all students to like English.
• I would feel better if my students could become fluent speakers.
• I need to change the use of technology. Use it more effectively.
• I need to engage students in becoming independent learners.
3. 3. Technical knowledge
The world is changing really fast, so we, as teachers, need to be updated.
Students demmands and needs are different today from what they were in the past.
Teachers need to adapt to those demmands and needs.
Teachers need to command the available technological resources.
Students need to be guided to use technology to bennefit their learning process.
4. 4. Developing action steps
• In the short term, I need to learn about the newest technological resources and
apply them to my classes.
• In the long term, I need to have my students working cooperatively and
communicating in English
• In the long term, also, I will guide my students to use technology as a resource to
improve their learning process.
5. 5. Make a record of your “pinnackle moments”
• One of those moments was when one of my students told me that now he liked
English and that he wanted to become an English Teacher.
• Another pinnackle moment was when I gave some copies of the material to one
students, so he could work in class with it and he got so motivated that became
one of the best students in the class.
• I took my students to the computer lab and asked them to make a commic using
reported speech, they were so enthusiastic about the idea, and worked in such a
creative way.
6. 6. Evaluate yourself
Current skills and strenghts
• Organized
• Responsible
• Patient
• Fluent
• Apply new knowledge
• Like learning and studying
• Take advantage of any diplomado or course available
Limiting factors and weaknesses
• Too tolerant and permisive with students
• Allow students to speak in Spanish
• Not enough time to prepare all the materiales I would like to use
• Internet at school not always works well
7. 7. Explore context
• The school I work for, started using a platform last year. As well as the use of
tablets and projector.
• Last year I started using those resources, it was a little bit difficult at the
beginning, but thanks God I could learn how to use those resources. However ,
this year I have found out that there are new ways to use those resources, so I am
trying to apply them into class.
8. 8. Be ready for changes!
• One of the big changes at School is working with technology. One of the teachers
and I are the ones who have been implementing these technological resources.
• We could share some ideas on how to work with the platform with them, but
really they are not willing to make changes in the way they work.
• However, we have informed the principal about those ideas, so, whenever it be
convenient, he may share them with the other teacher.
9. 9. Make a list of your skills and how to put them into practice
List of my skills
• Give presentations
• Coordinate services
• Verbal communication skills
• Design schedules
• Design the POA
I have put them into practice by taking the responsibility of designing the schedules
and the yearly plan every year at the beginning of the year.
Relating my other skills I can put them into practice by taking some responsibilities
whenever we have a special activity at school.
10. 10. Work in team
During the year, the teachers have several training activities. So, all teachers can
take advantage of these activities to work together to discuss and find solution
to different problems and situations at school.
11. …BE SURE TO ENJOY WHAT YOU DO!
• The priority in my life is God. Everyday at school we have a time to pray and read
the Bible. This is the most important activity during the day for me. So, no matter
what I do not skip any of these times.
• To control our mood, it is necessary to understand that teenagers are often
against rules and authority. So do not take it personal.
• A key element in the class is planning.
• Organize your lessons bases on the POA
