2. 1
Providence Summerbridge operates year-round and
includes four academic and leadership development
components: a six-week summer program, an after
school program, a Saturday program, and a tutoring
program. Students make a two-year, year-round
commitment during their 7th and 8th grade years.
3. 2
We recruit students from every sixth grade classroom
in Providence Public Schools. We base admissions
decisions on motivation, academic and leadership
potential, and need.
4. 3
Providence Summerbridge is 100% free for its
students. We provide transportation, meals, books,
and materials—everything. The program targets
students who would not otherwise have access
to comprehensive out-of-school opportunities.
5. 4
Providence Summerbridge’s academic classes are
creative, skills-based, and hands-on. Instead of
suffering from summer learning loss, students return to
school in the Fall motivated and prepared to excel.
7. 6
The teachers at Providence Summerbridge are
high school and college students.
Many are also graduates of the program.
8. 7
Providence Summerbridge includes more than
academics. We offer a curriculum on high school
options, leadership development, and special events
such as Olympics Day and Career & College Day,
and a culture that values spirit, safe play, and
healthy competition.
9. 8
We provide one-on-one high school counseling to
each of our 8th grade students to ensure they make
informed choices about the college-preparatory
high school that will be the best fit for them.
10. 9
We hire professional teachers to serve as
Mentor Teachers. This is an outstanding
professional development opportunity
for local educators.

Since 1992 Providence Summerbridge has sustained
a model public/private partnership with
the Wheeler School. Wheeler serves as Providence
Summerbridge’s host and provides about
$85,000 in in-kind support annually.
