Political Parties • What is a political party? – An organization of people who share certain ideas about what government should do • What do political parties expect of its congressmen? – They expect them to support the party on issues that go before Congress • Influences on Congress: – Their party helps them get elected – The party expects support and will influence a congressmen – Provide financial support

Interest Groups • What is an interest group? – Groups of people who work together for similar interests or goals • What do interest groups expect of its congressmen? – They expect them to support their views on their particular issue • Influences on Congress: – Can provide financial support – Present facts and information on legislation
