2. During the production of this prelim, I learnt a number on new skills and was
able to further and develop the skills that I already had. These skills included
working as a team to film and meet deadlines, I was also able to learn how
to use the software premiere to edit the prelim and developed techniques
that will allow me to use the software again with more confidence. For
example, I was able to use continuity editing techniques to make the prelim
run smoother, learn how to add effects, change to audio to make the
overall production better. Before the prelim I not aware of how to use the
premier software and the benefits that it could make to the media
production that we were unable to by just using the cameras, but after the
first session on the software being taught different techniques, and
experimenting with the effects I was able to improve the prelim and create
a good, smooth flowing, clear audio video. Therefore this shows that one
thing I leant was how to create a good quality, A-level media prelim with all
the shots and elements to it that were needed.
3. The skills that I have developed during this media production
are varied. As I was responsible for filming, I was able to
better my technical skills by using the camera freehand
and by using the tripod which allowed me to frame the
shots correctly and so they fitted and flowed with the final
production. For example, whilst filming the prelim, I was
able to read the shot list quickly and understanding the
abbreviations to their original meaning which enabled us
to speed along the filming process but still film the shots
that we need to fit in with the scene. This helped the
prelim to be more effective and impressive as I was able
to capture the key aspects such as close up facial
expressions’ which helped to tell the characters stories. This
helped me to build up on my technical skills to give a
more professional look and feel to the production so that
the audience could follow along the story with a clear
picture.
4. As the editing, putting the video together and part of the filming
was filmed in school, we were able to gather up people to
watch the full final production or areas of the prelim and
managed to gain back feedback. The overall feedback that I
received was mostly positive, with some comments for room with
improvement. For example, once the final production was all
put together, one peer said that the music that accompanied
the footage went really well and set the tone for the film. This
means that the music we selected was useful as it helped to tell
the story and show what the characters were feeling. However
the room for improvement was noticed when someone pointed
out that a small part of the footage was a bit shaky at one area,
this was the freehand use of the camera, therefore meaning
that the focus was not as fully effective all the way through as
we would of liked it to be. Overall, the feedback given was
positive and showed that I was able to create a production, with
effects added that were suitable and of good choosing, but
have areas of improvement that I ca learn from that will enable
me to work on them for the final media AS production.
5. To improve my preliminary task, I would look at the room for
improvement given and re-film the scenes that were not of as
good quality as the others and thinking more about all the
different techniques and shots we could of added. For example
there was on area of the footage, where the use of the camera
quality was not as good as it could have been. This meant that
certain scenes were a bit shaky and made the production look
less professional. Although the editing of the prelim worked with
the story we were trying to tell and worked well with the over
flow of the film, I think that I could of experimented more and
used more effects and techniques that would have been more
impressive and showed more skill in using them. Doing that
would of also allowed me to improve in my technical skills. There
was on scene in the prelim, where the setting/location, could
have been more impressive and more props used to help the
audience to grasp to feel of the character and the setting that
they were in.
